Hello folks, and thank you for tuning in to the ADR-NOW! Internet Radio Webinar.  I am your host, Anthony Johnson.

In this Consumer Debt Negotiation Webinar, we will focus on "forum shopping" and how small claims courts are accommodating debt collection companies and making it easy for them to collect on debt.  Traditionally, lawsuits to collect debts have to be filed in the state where a debtor lives.  There are exemptions, however, and they leave debt collectors room to maneuver.  For example, Virginia allows companies to file lawsuits in the county where a creditor is based, not where the  borrower lives.

We will explore what you can do to ensure that you do not fall victim to this peverse incentive associated with forum shopping.
