Thanks for your contributions on BTR. Let's not sweep single parenting topics and MALE RESPONSIBLITY under the rug. I realize that I am TAGGED as bitter and disgruntled, but what would that make men who walk away from their children? I thank you for continuing the labels on men who are not responsible. My child's father is trying to tell the world that he is NOT a deadbeat, NOT irresponsible, DID NOT walk away, DOES want to parent. You guys have helped me to make it evident that it is not what a man says, but what he does. Therefore his stereotypical label is befitting to him, no matter what he protests. MEN MUST BE PROACTIVE IN PRESERVING THEIR LEGAL RIGHTS AS A FATHER. I will continue to blog, discuss, and support women who want to talk about it. AMERICA is in denial & shame about SINGLE MOMS and fatherhood responsiblity. There's a movement in America by women to further remove men from the family, and teach young mothers to make a man give up his parental rights as an ultimatum. This is more damaging to our society than male castration. We have more conversations on how to date, than how to parent. IT IS NOT OK FOR A CHILD TO BE WITHOUT A FATHER. We know very well how to live without fathers, it is time to learn how to live with fathers. The children are hurting, obviously not the mothers. Thanks for taking this issue seriously. www.myspace.com/kirilove www.blogtalkradio.com/psycheofthesingleparent http://themakingofadeadbeat.blogspot.com

A Life.:A. Life... is a mother, author, poet, and entrepreneur. Among the many hats she wears such as, ‘Author-preneur’, Life has always loved to write and began at a young age; having had work published as early as the eighth grade. Her love for writing goes beyond just putting pen to paper. It is a part of her make-up. To her, it is life. And having gone through life's many struggles, A. Life... chooses to display in her work, characters of triumph. She considers her works not to be ones that push Christianity but words that flow from the mouth of a pen written by an author who is Christian. Mimi Renee~Melissa Burkes (Mimi Renee) California native born in Compton and raised in Long Beach California, Mimi Renee recalls that reading and writing has always been her passion from as far back as she could remember. As a young girl she read aloud to herself and others for fun and enjoyed volunteering to stand up to and read out loud in front of class as much as she could. During her sophomore year in high school at David Starr Jordan High in north Long Beach, Mimi learned that she was pregnant and was soon transformed to a continuation school to finish her high school term out at Will Reid continuation, in a special program for pregnant minors. Getting her life on track as a mother and not able to hang out with friends like she had in the past, Mimi reclaimed her passion for reading. She read countless books of various genres in her spare time. A few of her favorite authors are; Sister Souljah, Terry McMillan, Teri Woods, Nikki Turner, Shannon Holmes, Mary B. Morrison and Mary Monroe. Going back to her grass roots of scribed art suddenly Mimi had become inspired to put her passion for writing into action. After writing her first line on the page of her notebook, she was hooked. She has continued to write manuscript after manuscript and enjoying every minute of it.

Exposed Conversations and Readings w/ Nika C. Beamon

Despite the continued cultural emphasis on marriage, 70 percent of black women will live their lives as singles—widowed and divorced, but mostly never married. Whether this statistic is viewed as good, bad, or indifferent depends on a woman’s individual perspective. Beamon, a television news writer–producer, presents interviews with 21 successful black women fully enjoying singlehood with a range of opinions on their marriage prospects. Among the women interviewed are actress Kim Coles, author Deborah Gregory (of Cheetah Girls fame) movie producer Effie Brown, and an assortment of other professionals. The women applaud the television shows Living Single and Girlfriends for depictions of beautiful and successful single black women, and discuss the sometimes negative images of black women and the impact of the high unemployment and incarceration rates of black men on marriage prospects. Mostly, they recount their own personal journeys to accepting, enjoying, and capitalizing on their time as single women. Though written from black women’s perspectives, this book has appeal for all women looking for a fresh take on being single. --Vanessa Bush
