LGBT youth and sports--not a contradiction in terms. LGBT athletes and their parents face enormous and unique challenges and need the support of the entire youth sports community in facing them. Today we begin our Top Ten list of Famous LGBT out athletes who serve as role models.

Welcome to our podcast for Sept. 3, 2011. I am Dave Balog, information person for A Thousand Moms: Building Community Support for LGBT/Q Youth in Foster/Adoptive Care. Pull up a chair, settle in and listen to our discussion. Thank you for tuning in.

Joing me  is Fred Elia, founder and president of A Thousand Moms. Welcome Fred. Dr. Ray Werking joins us from East Greenbush, New York. Hi Ray! Tune in to Dr. Ray on WRPI’s Homo Radio at 91.5 in the Troy, Albany, Schenectady area, from 10-2 on Sundays. Listen live online anywhere via the Internet at wrpi.org.

Today a subject I've long looked forward to, at least, sports and LGBT out athletes. We explore some stereotypes and discuss what lies ahead for our youth.
