Run at Destruction contains a Reading Group Guide and is unique. It's the only book categorized in these two ways: True Crime and Sports/Running. Anne Rule, the best-selling true crime author of The Stranger Beside Me, Small Sacrifices, and Mortal Danger said Lynda's book is: "Wonderfully written. A must for true-crime readers." Sean Hartnett, correspondent for Track & Field News said: "Run at Destruction is riveting and compelling... the 2009 runner's read!" While Publisher's Weekly said: "this title... relies on the strong bond between author and victim for emotional weight; passages about their shared moments, and Drews's feelings of emptiness in the decades since, are remarkable." Lynda Drews, a Wisconsin native, recently gave the commencement speech at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse, her college Alma mater. One lesson she shared with the graduates was: “to journal your life.” When Lynda, a marketing executive, made the decision to retire after her thirty-year career, she returned to an earlier passion. Run at Destruction is the outcome. Lynda and her husband, Jim, a retired guidance counselor and an accomplished runner, have two sons, Collin and Chris, and a golden retriever named Bailey. The family has lived in Green Bay since the mid-seventies and helped launch the local running movement. The city now hosts the nation’s fifth largest 10K, the Bellin Run. RENEE’S REVIEW

MEXICAN BOWL FISHING And Other Tales of Life

    by

    William Douglas Little

I laughed aloud. I couldn’t help myself. William Douglas Little’s book MEXICAN BOWL FISHING and Other Tales of Life is full of humorous parables about life and the events that make us blush with embarrassment, simmer with rage, cause a bruised ego or bring us that comeuppance we somehow earned along life’s journey.

From the first story of Eddie’s superglue fiasco, to being outwitted by a pet and the lesson not learned in the final story Mexican Bowl Fishing, I laughed. We have all been there and done things similar, but William Douglas Little writes it so well, and tells it so honestly. His writing takes away that feeling of stupidity, it removes the hit to the confidence because laughing out loud is therapeutic and knowing that you aren’t the only one – well what is more equalizing than knowing that at some time or another the rest of the world has hit that sliding glass door head first.

Thank you for the laughter. This book is a must read especially on those days where patience is lost and anger ties you up in knots. Laugh aloud and feel the warmth of camaraderie.

Renee’s Book Talk is pleased to announce the next book up for discussion:

MEXICAN BOWL FISHING And Other Tales Of Life

A Collection of Short Stories by Columnist

    William Douglas Little

In certain parts of Mexico, the sewer system lacks some of the convenient features you might be accustomed to here at home. For example, dropping even a single sheet of toilet tissue into the bowl will cause the entire system to back up. This becomes a problem for those of us who are creatures of habit. Somehow, the idea of dropping tissue into the trashcan doesn't stick well when performing the task of, well ... using toilet tissue. So what happens when habit takes over and you accidentally drop a square into the bowl? Mexican Bowl Fishing, of course ...

Like his monthly MPN Column, William Douglas Little's book "Mexican Bowl Fishing" hones in on the most humorous, (and usually most embarrassing), tales of life, often noting the life-lessons that he's learned along the way. Most importantly, the ability to laugh at one's own
    inadequacies.

In this book, William recounts 26 individual stories including unrevised versions of his popular columns, "Bury the Cat Slowly", "A Lesson in Cheap", "Used Parts Salesman" and his introductory column, "Practice What We Preach" as well as 22 brand new, hilarious tales. Each story offers a humorous telling of the unfortunate circumstances that seem to plague his life, all delivered with his real world, conversational writing style that has attracted thousands of readers to his magazine column. Unfortunately, Mr. Little's misfortunes are all too recognizable by many of us!

With great lessons to help anyone in their job and their everyday life, Mexican Bowl Fishing is an entertaining look at the importance of laughing off embarrassment and focusing on the most important goal in life ... having fun. This book is required reading for anyone who has ever suffered from bad luck, misfortune, accidental injury or the minor complications of everyday life!

Send Laughter To Our Troops! Purchase your copy of Mexican Bowl Fishing from my website and I’ll donate a copy to outgoing military personnel headed to places like Iraq, Afghanistan. http://www.mexicanbowlfishing.com
