Her newest book, "Anne Frank: the Book, the Life, the Afterlife," launches this week. Her novel, Goldengrove, was published in September 2008. She is the president of PEN American Center.   Ready for a journey to Canada? Kate Sullivan interviews romance novelist Bobby Hutchinson, to discuss her newest book (November 2009/Langdon Street Press) titled "Blue Collar B&B," and reveal the secrets of late bloomers, reinvention, romance novels, and British Columbia. Hutchinson married young and had three sons, later on mortgaging her house to buy a business. After twelve successful years, she sold the business to train to run a marathon. Training was a bit boring so she wrote a story while running, about Pheiddipedes, the first marathoner. She sent it to a short story contest, won first prize, finished the Vancouver marathon, and became a writer. Married again and divorced again, writing all the while, mostly romances, she published more than fifty books.   WordSmitten Pulitzer Prize-Winning Rick Bragg

  Kate Sullivan interviews Pulitzer Prize-winning author Rick Bragg. His best-selling and critically acclaimed books depict the people of the foothills of the Appalachians and the titles are: "All Over but the Shoutin’" and "Ava’s Man". Bragg, a native of Calhoun County, Alabama, calls these books, including "The Prince of Frogtown," the proudest examples of his writing life, what historians and critics have described as heart-breaking anthems of people usually written about only in fiction or clichés. These books chronicle the lives of his family, cotton pickers, mill workers, whiskey makers, long sufferers and fist fighters. Bragg, who has written for numerous magazines, ranging from Sports Illustrated to Food and Wine, was a newspaper reporter for two decades, covering high school football for the Jacksonville News, and militant Islamic fundamentalism for The New York Times. He won more than 50 significant writing awards, in books and journalism, including, twice, the American Society of Newspaper Editors Distinguished Writing Award. He was a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University in 1993, and is, truthfully, still a freshman at Jacksonville State University. Bragg is currently Professor of Writing in the Journalism Department at the University of Alabama, and lives in Tuscaloosa with his wife, Dianne, a doctoral student there, and his step-son, Jake. His only real hobby is fishing, but he is the worst fisherman in his family line.    Kate Sullivan interviews Jane Smiley, awarded the 1992 Pulitzer Prize for "A Thousand Acres," is the author of ten works of fiction, including The Age of Grief, The Greenlanders, Ordinary Love and Good Will, and Moo. Her essays appeared in Vogue, The New Yorker, Practical Horseman, Harper's, the New York Times Magazine and the New York Times travel section, Victoria, Mirabella, Allure, and The Nation. She is also the author, from Crown, of a book on craftspeople living in the Catskills. Her novel "Horse Heaven" was published in April 2000. She is at work on a novel about sex set in Hollywood. She lives in California with her three children, three dogs, and her sixteen (and counting) horses. Born in Los Angeles, California, Jane moved to the suburbs of St. Louis, Missouri, as an infant, and lived there through grammar school and high school (The John Burroughs School). After getting her BA at Vassar College in 1971, she traveled in Europe for a year, working on an archeological dig and sight-seeing, then returned to Iowa for graduate school at the University of Iowa.
