Women In Transition  

December – Lillian King, an Account Executive with Robert Half Management Resources, will offer us financial advice in this time of economic uncertainty.

January – Seanta Williams, a Personal Life/Empowerment Coach, will talk about the transition into and out of military service.

Each year, the BPW/USA membership votes on the BPW/USA National Legislative Platform which guides BPW/USA advocacy activity for the coming year.

2008-2009 Legislative Platform

• Economic Equity - Ensure pay equity, equal education and economic opportunities at all stages of life; and promote affordable, quality dependent care to help ensure economic self-sufficiency for women.
• Health - Ensure reproductive choice and full access to all reproductive health services and education; ensure funds for research into and protections for women's health care needs; and encourage the development of a national health care policy recognizing the special health care needs of women.
• Civil Rights - Ensure equal rights and remedies for women in all phases of their lives; support affirmative action; eliminate all forms of harassment and violence against women.

2008-2009 Legislative Priorities

• Workplace Equity: Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, Paycheck Fairness Act, Automatic IRA Act, Retirement Security for Life Act
• Work- Life Effectiveness: Paid Parental Leave for Federal Workers Act, Health Families Act
• Civil Rights: Women’s Equality Amendment
• Health: HEART for Women Act
