The Knee Jerks began as a popular weekly chat feature between a pair of long running Detroit sports blogs, The Wayne Fontes Experience (WayneFontes.com) and Out of Bounds (GregEno.com). The web chat morphed into an every Monday night podcast. Your hosts are layabout blogger Big Al Beaton of TWFE, aka Mr. Blogger, and prolific freelance writer Greg Eno of OoB, aka Mr. Journalist. We cover the gamut of the sports landscape, but with a Detroit slant and a Detroit attitude.

    On tonight's show: Our run on celebrity boxers continues, but this celebrity is a bit more well known than our last boxing guest, Marvin Hagler Jr. Our special guest tonight is former 1986 AL Rookie of the Year and 1989 AL Most Valuable player, the best selling author of "Juiced," the infamous steroids tell-all, and now a celebrity boxer, Jose Canseco! (as of 11/6, Jose is our guest...but it could change by showtime. Hit up Twitter.com/TheKneeJerks for the latest) Canseco will fight Todd Poulton in match sanctioned by the Celebrity Boxing Federation November 6th in Springfield, MA. The bout will three rounds of one minute each featuring fighters with heavy 18-ounce gloves and headgear. Canseco's last fight was against former child star Danny Bonaduce of 1970s TV show "The Partridge Family," which ended in a hotly contested draw. Expect Jose to be his normally outspoken self as he talks to The Knee Jerks about boxing, baseball, (maybe) steroids and anything else which may be on the outspoken outfielder's mind! After getting to know Jose Canseco, we'll get down to brass tacks, and talk Detroit sports. We'll discuss any breaking news out of the Detroit Lions' Allen Park HQ, the latest from Red Wings at the Joe, or from the Palace, home of the Detroit Pistons. So doing us a huge solid, appearing with little notice, our guest tonight is Matt Hutter, a Featured Red Wings columnist for Bleacher Report. (Matt's columns can be found at: http://bit.ly/19wIdi) Matt is a long-time Red Wings fan who is based out on the Left Coast. Yes, a Wings fan in Cali. After our Red Wings chat with Matt, we'll discuss the latest news in Detroit sports. After we talk with Matt, we'll get down to brass tacks, and talk Detroit sports. Detroit Lions: Was your confidence in the new regime shaken by a bad loss to the Rams? Stan Kwan, enemy of the people, or the anti-Christ? Detroit Pistons: From the first 3 games of the season, is it too soon to think we are watching a lottery team? Or are they a playoff team with so many new parts, they need time to gel? Detroit Red Wings: Injuries, injuries and more injuries, as Valtteri Filppula is out at least 6 – 8 weeks with a broken wrist. What's next? Wait...I don't want to know... Michigan Wolverines: When asked by the Wall St. Journal, the Michigan brass said they would have patience in regard to Rich Rodriguez. As an example, president Mary Sue Coleman used Tommy Ammaker, who got 6 years to run the basketball program into the ground. That was at least 2 years too much, if you ask fans of the Woilverines. Michigan St. Spartans: The Spartans had much higher expectations than the Wolverines. If Rich Rodriguez is on the hot seat, shouldn't Mark Dantonio be on an even hotter seat?     On tonight's show: We have a change in the schedule, as the Karras camp had to cancel Alex's appearance. So, barring our finding a last minute guest, the Knee Jerks will get to their usual jerkitude right from the start of the show, talking the latest in Detroit sports. Detroit Tigers - Carlos Guillen went to the media to bitch about his playing time, and Jim Leyland capitulated, naming him the starting LF for 2010. Detroit Lions - Are coming off a bye week with the injury status of their 2 most important players, Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson, still up in the air. Detroit Red Wings - Long-time Red Wings exec Jimmy Devellano has been quoted saying the Wings' fanbase should lower their expectations for this season. If time permits, we'll try to touch on the Michigan Wolverines ugly loss to the Nittany Lions and the Michigan St. Spartans heartbreaking loss to the Hawkeyes. At the end of the show, The Knee Jerks will name their respective Jerk of the Week!     On tonight's show: We bring back one of our most popular and entertaining guests, Detroit's favorite son who made good in NYC, Bob Page! The ever opinionated Page last joined us back in June, in what was one of The Knee Jerks' most listened to episodes. Bob has a passion for college football, so you can expect plenty of talk about the Spartans and Wolverines, along with whatever else is on the long-time broadcaster's mind. After spending time with Bob, we'll discuss the Lions taking a big step backward while getting shut out by a not very good Packers team. We'll also touch on the Red Wings, including their latest late game collapse, a weekend OT loss to the dreaded Avalanche. We'll have some college football talk as well, specifically why the University of Michigan bothered to schedule D-II Delaware St, in what turned out to be little more than a varsity vs. JV scrimmage. Sherrod Blakely, whose writing can be found at mlive.com/pistons/. We'll discuss with A. Sherrod the newest Pistons, free agent signees Ben Gordon, Charlie Villanueva and Chris Wilcox and draft picks Austin Daye, DaJuan Summers, and Jonas Jerebko. How they'll fit in with what's left of veteran core is something all Pistons fans are wondering. We'll also ask for A. Sherrod's take on the influence of the internet on the NBA and his coverage of it, from Twitter to blogs. After our NBA talk-fest, we'll have out usual takes on Detroit sports.     On tonight's show: We take a detour from your typical sports talk to interview Marvin Hagler Jr., son of the 4 time middleweight world champion, Marvelous Marvin Hagler. Marvin Jr. is set to step into the ring as he makes his Celebrity Boxing debut October 10 in Philadelphia. This bout is part of preparations for his big Celebrity Boxing match with Sugar Ray Leonard Jr. in February. Once we talk boxing and growing up with a famous farther with Hagler, we'll turn our thoughts to the past week of the Detroit Tigers. Obviously, the one game playoff in Minnesota's Baggiedome and the Miguel Cabrera "incident" will be prime topics. Also on tap for discussion are the Detroit Lions, and their one game losing streak, the in-state rivalary between MSU and Michigan, won by the Sparties and Eno and I try to figure out just what happened to the Red Wings in Sweden. How they'll fit in with what's left of veteran core is something all Pistons fans are wondering. We'll also ask for A. We'll also tackle the latest winner in town, the 1-2 Detroit Lions, giving our thoughts, good and bad, encouraging and not so, on the Redskins victory. We'll also try to touch on the Michigan Wolverines, and QB Tate Forcier, who led the the now 4-0 Wolverines to a come from behind win over the Hoosiers. The Wolverines have a big time rivalry game coming up this weekend with the Michigan State Spartans, whom are itching to turn around their 3 game losing streak.     On today's show: Our thoughts on the past quite scary week of Detroit Tigers baseball, and also those of our guest, Johnny Lawrence. He's one of the featured Detroit Tigers columnists for the Bleacher Report (http://bit.ly/EwADQ). He also co-writes a weekly piece called "Detroit Tigers Dissector." One final Tiger connection is Johmmy is related to Tiger great Goose Goslin! Once we work our way through the Tigers' current situation, we'll move on to football, and the Detroit Lions. The Lions lost their 2nd game of the season, and 19th in a row overall, to the Minnesota Vikings Sunday, 27-13. We'll touch on everything from the struggles of rookie QB Matthew Stafford, to exactly when we think the Lions will actually do something out of the ordinary, like win a game!
