Happy Award Season! So, Award Yourself!

Ladies and germs, we are proud - PROUD - to announce that this week's episode of Wonder, is one for the record books!  Hooray!  That's right, it's the first ever Wonder Awards Show of the BTR era, and it has the distinction of being OUR LONGEST SHOW (of the BTR era)!!!  (Our actual longest show was 8+ hours, back in the old Webster U. days.  I'm sure everyone remembers that epic radio marathon...)

But let's talk about what really matters - the economy.

Okay, let's not.  Let's talk about the Wonder Awards!!!  More than just another flippin' awards show, the glorious Wonder Awards signify and salute those things of the past year that gave us cause to wonder.  (Because it's, you know, "The Wonder Show".  Get it??)  So anyway, there were all these hilarious categories, and all these crazy award show moments, not to mention the greatest celebrity fashion display that radio can deliver!

At one point, John, Mike and I felt so confident in our comedy hosting prowess that we gave perenial Oscar joke writer Bruce Vilanch the old heave-ho!  To the curb, Bruce!  Another poor chump on the bread line.  But forget about that, and download our show!!

And one other thing...  Along the way, you may notice that we experience a few technical difficulties.  Don't mind them - it all adds up to being part of the overall experience.  Prepare your acceptance speech, it's time to meet your reward, Awards style!

  • Original Air Date:

1.23 "The Annual 2009 Wonder Awards!"

With awards season in full swing, your friendly neighborhood Wonder Show throws its own annual gala, saluting the things from last year that caused us to wonder the most!

  • Date / Time:

    We blame the writers!!

Hey comedy writers, why doncha go back on strike??  It was bad enough that you somehow convinced us (myself, Mike and John) to keep you on payroll throughout that big writers strike of yours, and it didn't help that you also convinced us that the strike ended only when a new President was sworn into office, but now you've really gone and done it!!  Why, if we hadn't fed all of you to hungry crocodiles during this evening's Wonder Show, I'd have each and every one of you FIRED!!  I'm fuming, man - fuming!

Fuming with comedy, that is!  Tonight's Wonder Show is a new classic in the annals of comedy history!  Hey PBS, is it too late to submit material for that big "Make 'Em Laugh" comedy retrospective your airing?  Because just earlier tonight, Mike, John, and myself relived the Best of the year 1978!  Not 2008.  1978!  Hah!  How topical!  How timely!  How... lame!

Okay, I take that last paragraph back.  Our writers really blew it this time.  We were supposed to have our big (and very delayed) 2008 year-end retrospective tonight.  We had the submarine and everything!  But instead, the crummy writers delivered a load of thirty year-old, warmed over tripe, and then went into the next room to party down.  Well I hoped they enjoyed their little disco inferno, because that's it for them!!

By the way, the submarine may or may not have time travelled back to 1978 with us inside.  It's kind of hard to tell what year it is inside a submarine, though.  So if you're reading this, I guess it means that the internet has been invented, and it is 2009, not 1978.  Of course, I am writing this on a teletype machine...

  • Original Air Date:

    1.22 Run Silent, Run Stupid

The Wonder Deejays prepare their year-end "Best Of 2008" show...in a submarine?!

  • Date / Time:

That Was The Year That Wasn't or: Hey, weren't you jokers going to do a 2008 retrospective thingee?

Yea, the plague of death hath come a-knocking upon thine studio door!  Aghast!  Aghast!  I leer once fore, then yore.  Yon death plague shan't claim mine soul, that of Radio Guy, Jim!  Back foul, beast!!  At bay with ye!!!

A little inner monologue for you there.

You see, shortly before this week's Wonder Show was set to go to air with our long awaited, long delayed BEST OF 2008 program (live from an actual submarine, combing the river floor, no less!), Mike the Radio Guru called in, taken ill.  Ah well, John and I shall carry on.  Right John?  John?!?  Oh, no!!  John had fallen as well.  Sick, sick, sick.  So, lonesome but not loathsome (that would come later), I, Jim the Radio Guy trudged onward, delaying the submarine/BEST OF thing until next week (or such a time as there's no vomiting and wringing of intestines), and slapped together another rerun clip show.

This time you get to hear rare live field audio circa 1997, from Webster University's annual Springfest.  The Wonder Show had quite a presence at that, I'll tell you.  We made sure of it.  And if you listen to this week's show, you'll get to hear it all, in glorious mono!

    Dig it, Dancing Queen.

  • Original Air Date:

1.21 Another Classy Clip Show with Classy Classic Clips

Tune in for some hilarious clips from the Wonder Show's rich history! (Look, Mike and John got sick - what else can we do?)

  • Date / Time:

    Show Overboard!

Tonight we hit the high seas of St. Joseph, MO!  John the Radio Gross is mortally terrified of water and the ocean, and Mike and I thought, what better way to launch into 2009 than by forcing him to face his fear?  Radio gold awaits you when you listen to The Wonder Show episode 1.20!  (Just keep in mind it's internet radio. Only internet radio.  Yeah.)

And another thing - !  If you like talk about "Smallville's" Tom Welling ripping his shirt open, over and over again, this is the show for you!  So dust off the iPod, head to the nearest cornfield, and prepare for...  something!  Guest starring Tom Cruise!
