Just this minute I closed my eyes to imagine you doing a monologue on late nite TV and the amazing thing is, I can! I can imagine you doing this.     Idra Novey's first book of poems, The Next Country, will be released from Alice James Books in November 2008. She has received awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Poetry Society of America Chapbook Series, and the PEN Translation Fund. Her poems have appeared in Slate, The Paris Review, AGNI, and Ploughshares, and a book of her translations of Brazilian poet Paulo Henriques Britto, The Clean Shirt of It, was published in 2007. She teaches in the School of the Arts at Columbia University and in the Bard College Prison Initiative.
