    Judith Blau is our guest today. Ms. Blau is Professor of Sociology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she is the chair of the undergraduate Social and Economic Justice Minor. She also is past president of the Southern Sociological Society, President of the U.S. chapter of Sociologists without Borders, co-founder of its Think Tank, an international interactive site devoted to human rights, and director of the Human Rights Center of Chapel Hill & Carrboro. Her most recent books with Spanish coauthor, Alberto Moncada, are: Human Rights: Beyond the Liberal Vision (Rowman & Littlefield, 2005), Justice in the United States: Human Rights and the US Constitution (Rowman & Littlefield, 2006), Freedoms and Solidarities: In Pursuit of Human Rights (2007); Human Rights: A Primer (Paradigm Publishers, 2009). Her earlier books include Race in the Schools (recipient of Oliver Cromwell Cox Award in race studies), Architects and Firms, The Shape of Culture, Public Sociologies Reader (co-editor), The Blackwell Companion to Sociology (editor), and The Leading Rogue State (co-editor). She has written over a hundred articles, the most recent of which deal with aspects of human rights. She co-edits the journal, Societies without Borders: Human Rights & the Social Sciences. She helped to launch human rights sections in the International Sociological Association and the American Sociological Association. She serves as co-chair of the Educational Committee of the Science and Human Rights Coalition of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.     Jeffrey A. Miron is Senior Lecturer on Economics at Harvard University. Dr. Miron received a B.A., magna cum laude, from Swarthmore College in 1979 and a Ph.D. in economics from M.I.T. in 1984. He has served on the faculties of the University of Michigan (associate professor with tenure), Boston University (professor with tenure) and as a visiting professor at the Sloan School of Management, M.I.T. and the Department of Economics, Harvard University From 1992-1998, he was chairman of the Department of Economics at Boston University. Dr. Miron has published more than 25 articles in refereed journals and 30 op-eds in the Boston Herald, Boston Business Journal, and Boston Globe. He has been the recipient of an Olin Fellowship from the National Bureau of Economic Research, an Earhart Foundation Fellowship, and a Sloan Foundation Faculty Research Fellowship.     Shared Sacrifice--Economist Richard Wolff on the collapse of capitalism

    Dr. Richard Wolff is our guest today. He will join us to talk about the collapse of capitalism and his most recent work "Capitalism Hits the Fan". Dr. Wolff is an American economist, well-known for his work on Marxian economics, economic methodology and class analysis. He received his Ph.D. in economics from Yale University in 1969 and frequently collaborates with fellow economist Stephen Resnick. Dr. Wolff taught at the City College of New York from 1969-1973, and then began teaching at the Economics Department of the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he has been full professor since 1981. He began collaborating with Stephen Resnick during their common appointments at the City University of New York, and continued after they both moved to University of Massachusetts. Wolff and Resnick have jointly published numerous articles and books that formulate a nondeterminist, class analytical approach. Their topics have included Marxian theory and value analysis, overdetermination, radical economics, international trade, business cycles, social formations, the Soviet Union, and comparing and contrasting Marxian and non-Marxian economic theories. In 1989, Dr. Wolff joined efforts with a group of colleagues, ex- and then current students to launch Rethinking Marxism, an academic journal that aims to create a platform for rethinking and developing Marxian concepts and theories within economics as well as other fields of social inquiry.
