About a week or so ago Zane published a bulletin on My Space entitled something to the effect of "My Apology for the State of Today's World." The crux of it was that several of her usually loyal outlets would not stock or hold book signings for her "Purple Panties" lesbian erotica anthology. Now I understand Zane being a bit stunned that her old stand-by booksellers are not accepting the anthology and clearly that the nonacceptance is based upon their belief that a book of lesbian anthology may not go over well in their establishments. But are they as booksellers to be faulted for making what is essentially an economic decision? It seems that several have decided that by stocking and promoting this particular book it may negatively affect their ability to sell other books. Should a bookseller have the right to refuse to sell a book based on their belief that a subject matter might offend...not because of the subject itself (as there are many books of erotica on the shelves) but based upon who is involved in the erotic coupling? Any thoughts?
I am out of the City this week but such that we are in a position to host the show Saturday night...this will be discussed.
