"The Root of Bitterness" NOTE:(2)TWO Minute Start Delay We discussed this as it pertains to the Book of Hosea, because the common denominator found in this book is bitterness that was generational and had gained momentum from one generation to the next until it was able to exact its revenge on the people who bore the fruit of bitterness and those they were embittered with. It is a dangerous fruit that consumes the bearer of the fruit and those around them. A ball thrown against a wall will come back to the thrower! We reap what we sow! When Gomer returns to Hosea he accepts her back but with conditions. He refuses to be intimate with his unfaithful wavering fickle wife the prostitute. She has become so much a part of her occupation that delusion of character has occured. Is she a wife or is she a prostitute? Are we saved or unsaved? Are we His people or Are We Anathema? Gomer is punished and restored and Israel will return to God even though they are immoral and God announces the severity of their judgment. Israels unfaithfulness, God is left with no other recourse than to sentence them and God still measures out punishment with compassion and his judgment against their allies. God calls us to repent and be restored to relationship.
