Meet Hydeia Broadbent - International AIDS Activist

Photobucket At birth, Hydeia Broadbent was abandoned at the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas where Patricia and Loren Broadbent adopted her as an infant. Although her HIV condition was congenital, she was not diagnosed as HIV-positive with advancement to AIDS until age three. The prognosis was that she would not live past the age of five and as a result became the “test baby” for HIV/AIDS medications, which are currently on the market today. Needless to say, this “test baby” has defied the odds by more than16 years, which is valid proof that HIV/AIDS is no longer a death sentence. Hydeia’s debut as an HIV/AIDS activist and public speaker began at the age of six during one of her many visits to the hospital. By age 12 she was appearing on national programs including Oprah, 20/20, Good Morning America and “A conversation with Magic Johnson”. Over the next 10 years Hydeia became a notable featured speaker and guest panelist at some of America’s most respected educational institutions: Duke University, Clark Atlanta University, UCLA, USC, and Howard University. Since1996, she has been featured in some of today’s most prominent publications and television programs that include but are not limited to: Essence Magazine, Ebony Magazine New York Times, POZ Magazine, Seventeen, Heart & Soul, Nickelodeon, MTV, and BET. To her credit, she has also been honored with an American Red Cross Spirit Award and a 1999 Essence Award.

    Diane share her experience

    Photobucket
Diane shared her story on 20/20 and Oprah and now comes to POZIAM RADIO.Diane is a 58 years old and up until 2000 she was married most of her adult life. She like many others enjoy being in a caring, loving relationship and so after her divorce it was tough getting back in the dating scene. After 2 years and kissing alot of frogs, Diane thought she had found her prince a soft spoken, polite and charming computer guy with a great job and a way of making her feel like she was the only woman in the world. She was thrilled when they agreed to be exclusive and other than one indiscretion on his part she thought they were. Until they broke up and her world fell apart. After a diagnosis of pre-cancerour cells in the cervix due to HPV, Diane started investigating her former lover. Imagine her shock to learn that he had been seeing numerous other women. She felt compelled to warn them about the HPV, and thru a series of miracles and twists of fate, She also had contracted AIDS from this man. They had discussions about HIV, before and he insisted he was negative , and she surmised in looking back that he might have known all along. Angry and terrified, Diane actually found 11 other women he had infected. They banded together as sisters, not by birth parents, but by sharing the same disease in our blood. The women cried, they hugged, and they loved each other, as they processed the betrayal of a man-- the same man they had once loved. As the women shared, they came upon shocking news--he was continuing to victimize others in spite of his knowledge of his status.

Condoms and Conversations - Safer Sex

    Photobucket
Robert and Jeromy and Scott Kramer will be taking your calls and answering your questions about Safer Sex. Safer sex is a general term used to describe methods for reducing the chance that you will spread or catch sexually transmitted diseases (STDs, also known as sexually transmitted infections or STIs). The idea is that with a few simple tools and strategies, you can increase safety without sacrificing your sex life. Safer sex also involves talking with your partner/spouse, discussing activities and risks and making educated choices together. Of course, sex raises a number of other questions. Do you trust your partner? How do you get a guy to use a condom if he refuses to do so? What if you are suspicious that your partner/spouse is not being monogamous?
