    Monkey Fitted with Brain-Controled Robotic Arm

    Two monkeys with tiny sensors in their brains have learned to control a mechanical arm with just their thoughts, using it to reach for and grab food and even to adjust for the size and stickiness of morsels when necessary, scientists reported on Wednesday. The report, released online by the journal Nature, is the most striking demonstration to date of brain-machine interface technology. Scientists expect that technology will eventually allow people with spinal cord injuries and other paralyzing conditions to gain more control over their lives. The findings suggest that brain-controlled prosthetics, while not practical, are at least technically within reach. The new experiment goes a step further. In it, the monkeys’ brains seem to have adopted the mechanical appendage as their own, refining its movement as it interacted with real objects in real time. The monkeys had their own arms gently restrained while they learned to use the added one.

    2012 and the end of earth...our sun's twin star.

    There have been many theories that surround the "2012" year. For anyone who does not know about 2012, it is the year that the world will supposedly end or go through a massive change. I read an article by a scientist claiming that 2012 is the time when the earth is due for a mass extinction. And what caught most of my attention most is that it claims 2012 is part of a reoccurring cycle of earth mass extinctions. Here is the video of the Nemesis theory and our sun twin star.

    Dark Matter and Dark Energy.... More into the unknown

    We still must remember the fact that we still don’t know much about universe. There are forces and energies that still go beyond our understanding and the limits of our current science. Dark Matter and Dark Energy are dark because we have yet to shed scientific light on them. The way it looks now,  we will need to modify our current scientific understanding of the universe to incorporate these dark mysteries.     Biotech Company to Auction Chances to Clone a Dog

    A California company is planning a string of online auctions next month to clone five dogs, with the bidding to start at $100,000.

    Scientists consider dogs among the most difficult animals to clone because they have an unusual reproductive biology, more so than humans. But the company behind the auctions, BioArts International, maintains that the technology is ready, and it is calling the dog cloning project Best Friends Again. It has scheduled the auctions for June 18.

    BioArts says it has licensed patents issued in the 1990s after researchers in Scotland cloned Dolly the sheep.

     

    Technologies like this are evolving faster than our understanding. One of my biggest concerns for the next few decades will be the problem of our technology surpassing our humanity. Where do we draw the line in controlling our technological evolution?

    Quantum tunneling.... passing through solid objects

    The electron is an amazing thing. It could be everywhere and nowhere all at once. The quantum world is a place where our normal modes of thinking no longer apply. It made me start to wonder then that if the electron has the potential to blink in and out of existence... then was is stopping us from being able to do things like pass through walls. It turns out lots of other people have thought about this as well. The process is called Quantum Tunneling...... here is a video that is pretty easy to follow.
