In order for African People to Progress and have the Dominant Culture of America respect us or take us seriously; (1). We had better get organized and organized quickly locally, nationally and internationally such as in an African Empowerment Network! (2). Develop a voluntary tax-base and support an Afrocentric Visionary Agenda and Leadership! (3). We had better get our own stuff that we control! (4). We had better start investing financially in ourselves and our children instead of IBM and Xereo or invest as a block to have a controlling interest as a people! (5). We had better start "SHARING" Our gifts and talents to something greater than ourselves, The Uplift and Afrocentric Education of Our people! Then we can really begin to live a great life!

  • Date / Time:

Now education can bring unity to the Black community

otep (peace) and blessing to all,

Please join this very important conversation with educators from around the region. I will interview Mr. Leon Dixon from The Dubois Learning Center in Kansas City, Mo, Mr. Lloyd Daniel educator, poet, former state legistator with the Missouri House of Representatives, and Mr. Robert C Johnson education consultant from Detroit, Mi.

It is my belief that the problem with education in this country is three fold. It lacks cultural content for non white students, it no longer prepares most of today's children for tomorrow's technology/global world view and it does not teach critical thinking. With that said it is very important that Black people in America understand that the education model has to change. We have to start preparing our children at home before we turn them over to the U.S. educational system. We have to instill the importance of culture within our children so they develop into fully functional beings with a commitment to transform their communities.

It is also very important that Blacks and other cultures in America understand the economics behind education. Text books are purchased, teachers and administrators are hired, school buildings are built, supplies are purchased, fixtures and equipment are purchased, buildings/grounds need to be maintained, and lesson plans/curriculum developed. All of which lead to jobs with in our communities which is a very important resource for our survival. Communities need to control these resources to assure quality education for their children and to bring much needed jobs to their community.

There is a global mind game being played on people of African descent and other cultures that our history is not important and the history of European cultures are the classics of education and must be taught to bring civility to the savages. This global mind game needs to be destroyed for the future of our children and our survival as a people. The Eurocentric model of education teaches our children to value, materialism, individualism, militarism, top down leadership and self hatred. We are taught that our history and culture are not valued  which is clearly self hatred at the hands of racism. This mind set can clearly be seen when you try to discuss black/African history or value system with most Black Americans. You will hear them respond with I do not want to talk about that "black stuff" as if your own history has no value.  You can also see this mind set at work when you look at Black communities around the country and see the same state of decay.  Most Black Americans really believe in getting a good education, get a good job and get out of the ghetto. This ridiculous mind set has been past down from generation to generation since the civil rights era and must be stopped. We need to instill community pride and development by revamping the message to "get a good education or vocation, start a business and rebuild our communities".

Other examples of the decay of the American educational system are:

    1.Health and nutrition
Most Americans believe that fast food is good for them because it is convenient. Consider this, any food that is good for you takes time to develop. Cows, pigs, lamb, corn, wheat, fruits and vegetable take months or years to develop. So common sense would tell me that fast foods can not be healthy for you as it goes against nature. A quality meal always take time, ask any chef.
Most Americans do not really understand how the human body works. We really believe we can eat anything and the body will deal with it properly. This is not true please learn how food is broken down by the body and the importance of maintaining a alkaline ph balance in order to stay healthy.
Physical activity  is generally thought of  for athletes  or  jocks.  You must be able to burn  fat and calories  daily in order to stay  physically fit.  Today's  elementary  schools and  middle schools do not stress daily exercise.

    2. Success
Americans believe success is measured by the amount of money we make, how famous we become or how much power you have accumulated.
We do not seem to understand these are all things that we will leave behind after we leave this world. Success is the legacy you leave for the next generation and can not be measured by dollars and cents. Your character, tells me more about you as a person than how much money you have.
The American educational system will skim off the cream of the corp and placed them in advance classes for the purpose of preparing the student for college. The problem is it rarely challenge the other students to excel in other areas arts, writing, music, or skill training. This creates class/status conflict that only some of them will be successful based on becoming famous, doctor, lawyer, actor, politician and so on as being the source of success.  Again your legacy is your success, being a kind respectful person, community volunteer, family, politically active, being responsible, living a honest life, dependable, understand being a friend is also being there for a friend and so on. I heard someone say "I make money, money do not make me".

    3. The strongest always rule over the weak.
This is a natural thing for plants, animals, and fish but not humans. Humans have something call free will which the other species do not have. One person's strong will should not rule over the masses. But the collective of the weak (masses) should rule over one person's strong will. This will assure that all people are involved in the decisions of business, government, education, health care and economy to the benefit of the masses not to the strongest (corporations). History is full of examples of mad men who misled the masses, Caesar, Napoleon, Hitler, Tojo, and Mussolini just to name a few.

    4. World Class education vs vocational training.
The American educational system today is more geared to product clone workers on very level of education. Like if you only graduated high school you will most likely work as a non skilled laborer, telemarketing, service industry, hospitals, or clerk. If you graduate college you will be able to get a position in the vocational of choice, engineer, accountant, middle management, and so on. If you get your masters you go a littler higher up the ladder of corporate America,  and if you get a PH.d you can write professional papers, be  a professor, and so on.
I believe if everyone receive a Liberal Arts education (starting in high school) which is inclusive of all people on the planet we will develop much more rounded minds and character. Then they can take vocational courses. I know the current educational system is doing this now but without a strong commitment to the liberal arts as note above. Today's students can slide through the prerequisites and still maintain a high grade point average in their area of discipline.
An Global world view will help us respect and except other cultures as equals.

    Hotep (peace), blessings

My name is Carlos Carr Sr. with the Omaha Community Kwanzaa Group and host of On The Real with Carlos Carr Sr. on the btr site. I have been contacted by a few hosts around the country to be friends on their network. I am sure the purpose is to cross promote each other shows but have anyone thought about doing a national hook up with other host from around the country to do a show once a month? This can be an excellent format to discuss ideas, culture, religion, politics and other topics with a national audience. I believe every host of African decent on this btr site is on this site because of the white out in main stream media of issues important to our communities and the lack of true moral culture (American Pop Culture) which impacts negative thoughts and actions through out our communities. This is one way we can really make an impact in changing the way our communities interact with each other and create a national talk platform to discuss issues important to us.

We will also be setting in motion the princlples of the Nguzo Saba of Unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity, and faith. Our example could move our people to embrace these principle and start leading this nation and maybe the world down a path of social justice. I personally believe that our history best perpare us (Africans living in America) to lead this nation down a righteous path of social justice (people before profits). No other people have the history of so called African-Americans ( I perferred Black Folks until we restore our African minds) that has prepared us to understand the meaning of social justice thus prepared us to lead in this area.

The negro community (black skin and eurocentric minds) can not continue to misguide our people and communities into moral social decay with talk of protecting a system that has been injust to us. The Negro community has been teaching our children to get a good education, get a good job and leave the hood. We (Africans living in America) need to change that message to get a good education or vocation, start a business and rebuild our communities!!!.

So I challenge other host on the btr site to contact me at ockgtalk@yahoo.com and let's hook it up!

    Carlos
