  Melanie from Proud Spirit Horse Sanctuary chats with DC. Sometime back in the early 90's, author and founder of Proud Spirit Horse Sanctuary, Melanie Sue Bowles stumbled across this quote: "The Purpose of Life is to Live a Life of Purpose". She loved it so much that she stenciled the quote above a window that looks out over the pastures at Proud Spirit. It is the steadfast philosophy by which she has lived her entire adult life and unwanted, elderly and abused horses became her purpose.

  The Dale Rudin show 10/17/08

  What a blast. Did I really say virgin when I meant version? Where was my brain? I get these brain freezes sometimes during shows and it's not Mad Cow. ( I don't eat beef) It's having too much to think about. The continuous monologue we all have going on. I think our brain simply shuts off to avoid overload. I am working on slowing done the constant chatter and dialogue I have going on in my head, concerning what needs to be done and when. But that is another topic.
  
  I learned alot from this show. I always knew using light or gentle hands was important but did not understand why. I try not to let these shows get too complicated so that beginners can learn from them as well as seasoned riders. But I would love some feedback from some dressage riders, performance riders, reiners! Tell us why you believe light hands are important.

  From Quantum Savvy Horsemanship. After a particularly bad riding accident at 17, Meredith actually got out of horses for several years. It wasn’t until 2 years later, after she met her future husband Shane, that she began to follow her heart and begin riding again. At this point she discovered that she had completely lost her confidence, but none of the desire to ride. Whilst there was still plenty of advice to be had to fix ‘problem’ horses, nothing really seemed to provide the answers she looked for. There had to be a better way.
