What a year this has been for our community.  It started out a little tough with some record foreclosures and fuel prices which had the potential to really hurt our little community.  Cityhood debates continued and a field of over 20 candidates threw in their hat in anticipation of a YES vote on cityhood.  The spring brought the launch of Menifee Matters, our very own blog talk radio program.  Founder Therese Daniels teamed up with Chuck Reutter to debate cityhood.  Therese added guests that included candidates for cityhood and the platform was set.
Cityhood passed with a narrow margin of record low voter turnout, and the city council elect got to work to understand the job they were elected to do.  It was a community effort with great debates online and off.
The show continued with issues that mattered to Menifee residents.  Deed restrictions, HOA elections, school boards and gang activity.  Today we'd like to take some time to be thankful.  This story appeared in the Menifee Post. 

A City without Debt

The new city of Menifee comes into the world with a balanced budget and no debt. We have immediate on going obligations, but we also have an annual revenue stream of about 19 million dollars to match those obligations. For the next few months that revenue will be split between the county who will continue to service many of our obligations and the city. However, when the obligations of the county cease, the added revenue stream is transferred to the city.

Some cities may have problems because prior commitments will not be covered by shrinking revenues. Since Menifee has no debt or prior commitments, it can throttle back on spending should it face similar shortfalls.
Mayor Edgerton promised to stay within budget during his watch, and vowed that he would balance the budget with a surplus while he was Mayor, during his inauguration speech in October.  I've been proud to watch the city take over the various services from the county and have a sense that they will keep their promises.  The Marketplace opened on schedule with very few merchants opting to postpone openings due to the economic crisis we find ourselves on at the national level.  Menifee is definitely poised for some more price drops in housing, but we do have the best and affordable community in the valley, maybe the county...maybe even the state.  I see great things for Menifee!

I didn't attend last nights meeting, but according to John Hunneman, a Staff Writer for the Californian, the council have asked the staff to look into the cost of hiring a consultant to examine how by-district elections should be implemented in 2010.  In June, voters chose to incorporated Menifee as a general law city with 'by-district' elections.  It's true that there were no real statements filed that explained charter cities, general law cities or at-large versus by-district elections.  Perhaps because of that the city is also looking in to community interest in a special election to determine again if the by-district plan would work best for our community. 

According to the article in the Californian, about a dozen people attended the council workshop, put on by city attorney Betsy Martyn to explain those and other options to the council.  Under the by-district election, voters in each city district would cast ballots for one council member among candidates who live within that district.  Since we don't really know yet how the districts are to be determined, let alone what they might look like, it is all a bit confusing.  In an at-large election, voters in the city choose from among all the candidates, regardless of where they live.

Another election focusing on Menifee is still rather close to call.  As of November 12 the results looked like this, with 100% of the 76 precincts counted.

I spoke to Doug at the Registrars office on the 17th to clarify a press release that several local elections warranted a mandatory check of either 1% or 10% of the precinct votes. It's mostly a manual quality control check that's done with close elections. He assured me that the results will NOT be certified until Dec 2nd, maybe a day or so earlier.

County wide there were over 47000 provisional BLUE ballots still to be researched and counted, and even if only a small percentage were Menifee, the margins are such that there could still be some changes in the outcome.

Provisional ballot research does not begin until November 24 and there was a very high % of last minute registrations that contributed to the high number of provisional ballots.

The tally of qualified write-in candidates will begin the week of Nov17th. Provisional ballot research will begin the week of Nov 24th. Final Ballots include
Provisional and uncounted duplicated ballots will be counted Nov 28th – Dec 1st.

                      CUSC.ORG is encouraging everyone to write to the Supreme Court judges to ask them to hear and investigate Obama’s eligibility to be POTUS. It has a link that gives information and suggestions as to how to draft the letter and where to send it. Since there is so little time left, it would be helpful for any one concerned to also write a letter.

You are facing one of the most unique and historical challenges to protect and uphold the Constitution of the United States. Not since the Civil War of 1861 has there been an issue of such vital importance to the future safety of United States of America.

Though Berg is asking you to rule on “standing”, it is vital that the court rule in favor of Mr. Berg on “standing” so the true heart of the matter be settled once and for all.     There is but one issue and only one issue to determine. Is or is not Barack Hussein Mohamed Sotoero Obama eligible to be president under the Constitution as it is written?  

 

Right now the whole world is focusing upon you, The Supreme Court of the United States, who are the guardians of the our Beloved Constitution and the protectors of American rules of law that separate us from chaos and tyranny. The world is wondering if you will have the courage to do what is right. It fears you will crumble under the pressures of public opinion, hollow “racist” accusations, fear of race riots threats, invisible intimidators and deal makers, or accusations of failure to respect the will of the people since Obama was elected by the people. (Everyone knows only 25% of the people voted for Obama. He was elected by a minority.)   

 

The American public has been witnessing distortion of justice in the courts for years and suspects it will soon witness one more travesty of justice.  The public’s silent fear is that Obama is not eligible to president but will be become president because The supreme court will fail to hold him accountable through a technicality like “standing”.  Imagine a usurper who becomes the president of the United States is permitted to remain so because no one in America has “standing” to make the man accountable in the courts of law.  It this becomes so, then what good is Article II in the Constitution? 

 

It is believed the Supreme court will conspire with those who have vested interests in Obama to manipulate or convolute the articles of the Constitution in such a way it will legitimize a usurper to the Presidency.  The whole world knows beyond a shadow of a doubt Obama is not a “natural born citizen.”  If Obama slips through the net of these lawsuits and takes the oath of Presidency, the whole world will know the Constitution of the United States and its holy guardians have failed the American people. Our Constitutional Guardians will have rendered our precious constitution impotent and opened the gates to the most pernicious form of tyranny-- that which disguises itself as a benefactor to its victims. The Presidency of the United States is merely a commodity. The hour of your choice is crisis of our history.

 

This is not about Obama.  This is about the hope and future of America. This case asks far more profound questions than whether or not Obama is a citizen.  This is the crisis of Constitutional history. Though issues are different,  the significance is equal in challenge to Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation.  When Lincoln was preparing America for the idea slavery would be abolished in all states, seven states seceded from the union. The civil war was to save the union.  I often think about how painful that must have been for Mr. Lincoln. I am in awe at his courage and vision. The Emancipation Proclamation changed history for the better.  Obama’s case is about upholding, protecting, defending and saving the integrity of the Constitution. This is the case that will change America as we have known once, for all, and forever.  This time, if the Supreme court fails to act on the side of the Constitution,  it will be  a change for the worse.

 

Time is of the essence.
