Women Making a Difference w/Toni "TQ" Quist

    HI Everyone-
    Wasn't tonite's show interesting?  I learned a lot tonite...AND was inspired by TQ's story...

Starting to paint on a suggestion by an artist aunt, after suffering many injuries from an auto accident, TQ started painting after her chiropractic appointments.  And here, Screaming Woman was started (www.screamingwoman.com).  At first TQ's paintings started out very tiny, almost art imitating life in how she was feeling after her trauma.  Her aunt encouraged her to "GO BIGGER" in her paintings, and TQ started buying larger canvases.

She is a self-taught artist, who know paints portraits & teaches what she calls (and is branding!) Self-Actualizing Portraiture.  More than "art therapy", she hopes to use this technique for those suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome, which she has suffered from-mainly with war vets.

Her main "gem of wisdom" for us was to make sure we all "put a piece of ourselves" into our art (whatever it may be!) to give it "soul" and make more 3 dimensional.  I LOVE this!  Make sure to visit the Screaming Woman website to view TQ's portraits at www.screamingwoman.com.  She has been exhibited in many shows, including a show in Atlanta where her portrait of James Brown was featured!

***If you can't afford an origianl, there are prints available!***

TQ is also working on a jewelry line & her Self-Actualizing Portraiture program!  Stay tuned!!

Housekeeping:  Make sure to get caught up on shows so you can vote for our Woman of the Year!!  Voting begins on 12/1-12/12 for ALL interviews done through 11/30/09.  Winner to be announced on 12/14/09. www.blogtalkradio.com/makeadifference

Our RED Hot & GREEN show on CasaVerde is on 11/29/09 @10:30a.  We announce our Top 10 eco-friendly, healthy lifestyle people, businesses, products & services for you to watch in 2010!! www.blogtalkradio.com/casaverde

And our Gratitude, Abundance & Living w/Intention show on Feng Shui Fabulous will air on 11/29/09 @12p cst!  Guests Esther Hughes & Patricia Sheehy will be on for the hour as we share tips, stories and how to get through the holidays, stay present in your life & how to NOT get into poverty thinking.  Plus, we'll be giving away autographed copies of our books!!  Send us your story of Gratitude, Abundance or Living w/Intention & get entered into the drawing on the show page www.blogtalkradio.com/bante-design-llc

Women Making a Difference w/Toni "TQ" Quest

Toni Quest engages in art to express her feelings genuinely and with impact. She became an artist in 1994 after surviving a head on auto collision. Her multiple injuries left her head spinning, her boyfriend bolting, and her heart and soul screaming. While recovering at home in much physical and emotional pain, she began painting faces giving birth to her Screaming Woman ™ series. Since then, Toni Quest has licensed her award-winning painting for the book cover, View From the Middle of The Road Volume II, U.S. in Us . A selection of her poetry is also included in this anthology. In March of 2007, Quest was interviewed on Internet Voices Radio by Dr. Niama Williams. She spoke about her artwork and her recently published poetry. During May of 2006, Toni Quest’s portraits of James Brown were included in the Visual Soul Exhibition commemorating Brown’s 50 th year in show business. Quest’s work was displayed at the Lucy Craft Laney Museum in Augusta , GA before the legendary soul singer’s passing. In June and July of 2006, Quest was named one of Westchester County ’s leading new artists in the Westchester Business Journal. She was selected by the Westchester Arts Council to exhibit in their Young Emerging Artists exhibition ( YEA ) in White Plains , NY . Although most of her work has been portraiture, TQ also brings her same spirit to other subjects and incorporates it into her teaching by sharing with her students the techniques she used to teach herself. By exercising her artistic abilities, she was able to heal herself from post-trauma stress disorder, deal with physical and emotional pain, and combat Multiple Sclerosis. Through her art, TQ bears her soul as well as her affinity to the collective consciousness of human kind. Her intent is to provoke emotion and thought, thus inspiring constructive communication about one’s relationships to others and the world around us. www.screamingwoman.com

Women Making a Difference w/Katie Takahashi

In this episode, meet actress/director Katie Takahashi. Not only is she a talent on BOTH sides of the globe (she is originally from Japan & does work in the US & Japan!), but she has now started her own theater troupe. What makes Katie a true inspiration is her life story and her courage in picking up and leaving her home country to start a life here in the US. Listen and learn where Katie gets her strength from & how we can incorporate that whenever WE feel a bit afraid of the unknown.

Women Making a Difference w/Katie Takahashi

    Hi Everyone-
    A few house-keeping things:

Remember to listen to all Women Making a Difference interviews & VOTE for your favorite one starting December 1-12th!!  All interviews through Nov 30th will be included in voting.  On the Dec 14th show, I will announce our Women of the Year!  Email your vote to us at the show...click on "Send a message" and we'll tabulate votes.

Katie Takahashi is one of my fave people...She is my friend, but more importantly, she is one of the strongest, bravest people I know.  Katie is a prime example of strength, courage & a determination to make dreams come true...even if it takes packing your bags, leaving your home AND country to pursue & follow that dream!

I'm totally stealing some of Katie's gems of wisdom:

    1. Have a plan in mind (i.e. lemonade is what you WANT to make), HOWEVER, pick up ALL OF THE FRUIT you come across on your journey to creating the lemonade...You'll end up w/a Fruit Punch that can be better than what you originally thought!  Don't limit yourself to flavor, color, consistency...let the other fruit (i.e life experiences, set-back, gains) help the Fruit Punch mix!
    2. Always TRUST what it is you WANT w/the HOPE that it will appear....(I love that...).  Don't let anyone ever tell you that what you want (i.e. your lemonade) is stupid, bad, not achievable or any of the other negative talk we hear....if you want something, there is a reason for it.
    3. No life experience is ever a waste.  All that we experience, and all that cross our paths come into our lives for a reason...look at it and see WHY...(i.e. why are we finding lots of grapes & apples, but no lemons?).
    4. And finally, when I asked Katie what it was that inspired her to cross an ocean, learn a new language and become a musician even though she isn't formally trained & can't read music?  She stated simply "My WANT is greater than my FEAR".  Think about that and apply that simple question to your dreams and goals.

    Here's more on Katie:

    Katie Takahashi Bio

Katie Takahashi was born and grew up in Tokyo. She spent one year thoroughly enjoying a unique experience of being a foreign exchange student in Darwin High School in Australia. There she first tasted what it was like to perform in public, and to do an Australian TV commercial.

Followed by her brief stint in the music industry working for a major international record label in Tokyo, Katie crossed the ocean to the US. She graduated from a two year-programme at the Stella Adler Conservatory of Acting in New York.

Katie Takahashi has worn many hats in the field of performing arts in Japan and the US. As artistic director, she develops collaborative theater projects (www.teamtakahashi.com) such as the new musical “Voices of the Wind – The Story of the Ninja” (Ninja Project) that she recently conceived, produced, wrote, co-songwrote, and directed.Utilizing her skill and knowledge of Japanese traditional dance, she is known for her successful fusion of the elements of Japanese style theatre with western style theatre.

Katie has also performed extensively as an actor, dancer and singer. She has performed such New York theatres as LaMaMa ETC, Theatre Row theatre, and Joyce SoHo.
