Limor Schafman Presents: Museums Go Interactive

The U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum has embarked on an audacious program integrating interactive marketing campaigns with digital kiosks and curated worlds in Second Life. Join Chris Testa, Acting CIO and David Klevan, Manager of Education & Distance Learning Initiatives for a look at how one museum is grabbing the Web 3.0 bull by the horns to drive commuity involvement.

This November, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum launched a new learning environment in Second Life called Witnessing History: Kristallnacht, The November 1938 Pogroms. The sim blends archival sound, video and photo material with narrative story-telling in an immersive environment. Visitors are invited to take on the role of journalists, investigate the history, reflect on the tragedy that was Kristallnacht, and consider its consequences. At the end, each visiting “journalist” can file his or her own report about this important event. This project was inspired by a beta concept and design developed by teenagers working at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in partnership with Global Kids and the teen-run design firm, Digital Refinery. It was designed for the Main Grid by Involve, Inc. Access the SLURL at http://snurl.com/7r1i6.
