La Radio with Pepe Benavides  

La Radio intertwines music such as, punky reggae, rock, ska, roots and metal with progressive politics. A weekly two hour show that possess a youthful sound with music not currently played anywere. The playlists will also spotlight independent artists with a socially conscious message on a political tip. Through this programming La Radio seeks to educate youth through the music they listen to by artists from around the world. We hope that the program will help guide our young listeners to become politically active and participate in social change. La Radio also looks to help expose underground politically conscious artists who write conscientious lyrics. The pacing of the music is also a key element to the show. Each week our program will open with up tempo music (rock), wind into, for example, Jamaican ska in the second hour and play slower songs to close out the show. La Radio believes that music has no borders and that music belongs to the world. The overall sound of La Radio gears itself towards listeners of independent contestatory music as their only outlet from the usual refried commercial junk dominating the airwaves. Given that the youth vote helped propel a new President into office, the timing for this show is right and we hope to guide our listeners through a path of consciousness and global awareness.
