Kilombo -- African Centered Perspectives on Sovereignty Kilombo will feature analysis, news, interviews, book reviews, music, & special guests all dealing with the multi-faceted, trans-dimensional concept of sovereignty & from an african centered perspective. Lilombo is a west african word used in brazil by the africans and europeans for a fortified encampment of freedom seeking african pows who self-emancipated from slavery to live as free women & men. These africans were called maroons & their kilombos (also spelled quilombos) were always situated in remote, inaccessible areas far from euro settlements. Maroons established kilombos thru out the atlantic diaspora. The republic of Palmares was the largest & best known kilombo in Brazil. In the US between 1660-1860, historian Herbert Aptheker discovered 50 kilombos established by "run-away slaves" (maroons) who wished to live their lives as free & sovereign women & men, not slaves. Tune in for informative and enlightening segments with Dr. Uhuru Hotep.
