    Reporters Roundtable with Cheryl Smith

Today we're celebrating Memorial Day, but it's also Elusive Ladies Day because on May 26,1978 the ladies were running things at Florida A&M University.

After the opening, Jasmine gave us a news update. Bilal is in Atlanta with his family and Andrew is enjoying his family so there was no health update or sports info.
Ty was in the studio and he sang happy birthday to his grandmother, Brenda Epperson and he told the world that she was 53 today!

I mentioned that DISD trustee Carla Ranger was having issues with her employer, Dallas County Community College District.

Shane Hefner presented me with a Black Business Directory and it can be picked up by checking out www.goblackbusiness.com.

There are a lot of things going on and next week there will be a fundraiser for Paul Quinn College at the African American Museum on May 31 at 4p.m.  You can call 214-379-5515 to get a vendor booth.

Last week, I was live at the Original South Dallas Cafe in Sunny South Dallas and later in the week I had lunch with Reginald of  Already Gear at the Camp Wisdom location.  Already Gear specializes in printed items and Reginald can be reached at 214-537-4551.

The Southern University Alumni Association's Bayou Bash is coming up so I did a call out to "Bonafide" alumni members to share the information, but no one called in with the information.
I also did a call out to "Bonafide" Paul Quinn alums to talk about the fundraiser - again no callers and to members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.

Former Dallas NAACP branch president Casey Thomas called in to talk about Trustee Ranger and a meeting that was held at St. Luke "Community" United Methodist Church and Ms. Ranger addressed the group.  I mentioned that Gordon Jackson of the Dallas Weekly spoke with Chancellor Wright Lassiter and was informed that Ms. Ranger was offered another position.  According to Casey, the position was 2 grades lower than the one she was being removed from.  Casey thanked St. Luke Pastor Tyrone Gordon for his support and Brenda Fields and Joyce Foreman for their leadership in pulling the meeting together.  He said funds are being raised and already there was a total of $1100.  You can send checks for Ms. Ranger to St. Luke.

My guest for the show was Mickey Rayford.  Since she was 18 months old she has been in the foster care system, spending the majority of her years in Buckner Children's Home. Earlier this month she graduated from Texas Woman's University with a degree in government and now she is looking for a job.

Mickey will be with author Antoine Fisher on May 5 at the Anatole Hotel for the Attorneys Serving the Community luncheon benefiting Wednesday's Child Benefit Corporation. You can get tickets by calling 972-231-1433.

Throughout the show, we played music from the 1970s, in honor of the Elusive Ladies.  My playlist included:

The Sun is Here by Sun
    Elusive Lady by the Pockets
Hamilton Bohannon's Let's Start the Dance
Be For Real by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes
We Both Deserve Each Others Love by LTD (that might be from the 80s)
I'll Be Sweeter by the Ojays
She used to be my girl by the Ojays

    Shout outs:

    -The Elusive Ladies
    -Brenda Epperson - Happy Birthday!

    That's all for this week.

    Until next time -

    Whatever you do,

    Don't Believe the Hype!
