Sharing Wisdom::Impatience can easily lead to unhappiness because the focus is on what we do not have. Instead, let’s appreciate what we do have, continue to work for what we want, and believe that we will eventually get what we desire or possibly something even better. That’s practicing patience.

In the last decade, countless revisionist scholars have followed in the footsteps of John Dittmer and Charles Payne in the pursuit of creating a more complete and complex narrative of the black freedom struggle through historically grounded local studies. Placing local people at the center of civil rights history rather than at its periphery forces the myths of the movement to crumble. Local studies demonstrate that non-violence coexisted alongside self-defense in the South and throughout the nation. They reveal the role women played as local organizers alongside men who missed the spotlight as national mobilizers. Finally, local studies implode the notion that the civil rights movement took place only in the South between 1954 and 1965 and challenge the sharp dichotomies made between civil rights and black power. The goal now is to connect the local, the regional, the national, and when possible, the transnational. Local people from all over the nation drove the 1968 Poor People’s Campaign (PPC)—the first truly national, multiracial anti-poverty movement. The Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) built Resurrection City—a temporary shantytown of plywood A-frame houses on the National Mall—to display the appalling living conditions endured by the poor and provide a home base for daily protests at various government buildings. But the nine regional caravans that transported the multi-racial coalition of the poor to the capital connected local movements with the national campaign in Washington, D.C. The caravans enabled local people to place their individual needs in a national context and recognize the systemic roots of their poverty. This presentation focuses on the most dramatic of the nine regional caravans, the Mule Train—a caravan of approximately fifteen mule-drawn covered wagons—and Marks, Mississippi, the small Delta town that served as the launching pad for the Mule Train and the PPC. Caravanning to the capital as a moving political theater, the Mule Train enabled participants to perform the limits on poor people’s mobility—both economic and physical. Cultural geographer Tim Cresswell argues that mobility is a site of ideology construction that often invokes contradictory meanings, since it has meant freedom and opportunity for some and shiftlessness and deviance for others. This analysis considers how representations of the Mule Train and its participants fall along racial, class, and gendered lines and how the caravan used mobility as a form of political resistance. The participants’ courage to endure the long and arduous journey and protest in Washington challenges culture of poverty depictions of the poor as lazy and apathetic. Drawing on interviews with Mule Train participants and SCLC archival materials, this presentation demonstrates how the PPC transformed one Delta community and its residents and considers how representations of and memorials to the Mule Train have affected perceptions of poverty nationally and people’s experiences locally. Connecting the past with the present and concentrating on the process of organizing rather than evaluating whether or not the PPC succeeded in meeting its goals, can help us understand what motivates people to join social movements and how they effect participants’ lives. How Mother's Day Became a Father's Day Miracle

I experienced a miracle beyond my conscious ideas about what was possible. My children called with their Mothers day wishes, I called my Grand mothers. Then I took a deep breath (hoping the conversation would not end with me loosing control, saying things I'd later regret) and called my dad intending to extend a Mother's Day greeting to my step mother. But it did not go as planned. Dad answered the phone and what started as our usual How are you? I am fine cordial but very brief conversation became  an hour long Thank you dad for inspiring me to be who I am today, please forgive me for all my childish episodes of dis-respect in the past. The next hour proved to be a long awaited healing at-one-ment, (dad called it a confessional) I have hoped for from the time I was 12 because I missed my dad. I came out of the womb a daddy's girl, looked just like him, he took everywhere he went, I remember being 3 or 4 , in my grass skirt doing my Hula-hoop dance as the opening act for the singing group he managed at the NCO club. But those years between 12 and 17 were filled with many challenges for both of us. He and my mother divorced, he left the state, then left the country ( after I came to live with him briefly), mom was arrested, was diagnosed with physical and mental illnesses, was institutionalized for a while, became psychotic and violent... I left home at 17 or 18. I was frightened, confused, and felt abandoned by my daddy, so I verbally lashed out at him as I had seen my mother do many times. My Dad explained that he too was faced with challanges of his own, he was embarking on and at the same time moving to the top of a career that was pretty much closed to blacks at the time, correcting himself after a nasty divorce, and financial ruin,  dealing with an angry teen aged child who thought she was grown, along with misguided input from well intentioned relatives. Neither on of us was conscious of what the other was eduring...until this Mother's Day.Today as I reflect on my Thank you, I realize that it was double edged in nature. Consciously I was giving appreciation to my dad for teaching me how to think out side the box, to develop an open mind to the world's many Philosophy's, cultures, and foods with out fear or judgement for what is different. We had a large beautiful statue of the Buddha in the living room, a dog named Socrates, and my dad would read to me from Khalil Gibran's the Prophet instead of the Three Bears. To this day I fearlessly embrace the golden thread of truth that runs through all religions, have friends from many nationalities and  enjoy creating exotic new dishes that I  publish in my vegetarian cook books. But unconsciously I was Thanking him for his part in the pain, because pain that forced me look deep within for the stuff needed to fulfil my life purpose as a light worker on the planet. I don't remember a time when I did not have this desire to alleviate other people's suffering, that I now know  was also my own (there is only one of us here).Through the years and the many workshops on Forgiveness I have facilitated I would at times feel a twinge of inauthenticity in my heart knowing good and well that I had my own unfinished business with my father. As I meditate on this miracle I realize, the healing has been in progress all along, that it could not, will not be complete until I am fully expressing my Divine purpose. I see this Mother's Day Miracle as confirmation that I am doing just that fulfilling not just my life purpose, but my soul purpose as well.  As we talked and healed not only did my father forgive me , I forgave myself for my part in it all, knowing that I was fulfilling my part in it all. Knowing that on some level my Dad and I had made a pact to do this for one another. Dad said it best " I wouldn't be where I am today if it hadn't been for what happened in the past" He's right we are the sum total of all the things that have transpired in our lives. In my practice I  invite my clients to Find the Blessing in the thing that's Messing your Life. The blessings can be found in the pain, that's the purpose of the pain to let you know that some thing with in you wants your attention, to be revealed or healed. Dad also acknowledged that we do the best we can with what we know at the time, good intentions are always at the root of all actions. It was not easy but it took a day of quiet meditation for all of this to integrate into my system, then I decided to share my insights  about this incredible experience in this blob and as  I turned on the computer, I was guided to scan through my Google home page. Under the How to Do Anything section glowed the words; How to Forgive the Unforgivable. As I read the article I was amazed at how closely it follow my own Forgiveness Workshop model. I could not have written it any clearer myself, so I decided to share it with you. I've also listed two books that helped me to come to my conclusions about forgiveness. Hope my story is helpful, please send me your feed back to tamara@illuminationssoultherapy.com

    How to Forgive

    from wikiHow
One of the hardest, thorniest and most difficult things we humans are ever called upon to do is to respond to evil with kindness, and to forgive the unforgivable. We love to read stories about people who've responded to hatred with love, but when that very thing is demanded of us personally, our default seems to be anger, angst, depression, righteousness, hatred, etc. Yet study after study shows that one of the keys to longevity and good health is to develop a habit of gratitude and let go of past hurts. Want to live a long, happy life? Forgive the unforgivable. It really is the kindest thing you can do for yourself. Your enemy may not deserve to be forgiven for all the pain and sadness and suffering they've purposefully inflicted on your life, but you deserve to be free of this evil. As Ann Landers often said, "hate is like an acid. It destroys the vessel in which it is stored."

    Steps

    1. Realize that the hate you feel toward your enemy does not harm them in the slightest. Chances are, they've gone on with their life and haven't given you another thought.
    2. Make a list of the good things that happened as a result of this awful experience. You've probably focused long enough on the bad parts of this experience. Look at the problem from a wholly new angle; look at the good side. The first item on that list may be a long time coming because you've focused on the bad for so long, but don't give up. Force yourself to find 10 good things that happened specifically because of this experience.
    3. Look for the helpers. Fred Rogers (Mr. Rogers) related that, as a little boy, he'd often become upset about major catastrophes in the news. His mother would tell him, "look for the helpers." In your own nightmarish experience, think back to the people who helped you. Think about their kindness and unselfishness.
    4. Look at the bigger picture. Was someone your "good Samaritan"? In this biblical story, a traveler happens upon a poor soul who was beat up on the road to Jericho and left for dead. It's a lot easier to play the part of the Good Samaritan than to be the poor soul who is left bleeding and bruised on the side of the road. Perhaps this isn't all about you. Perhaps your trial provided an opportunity for others to rise to an occasion to provide you with help and support.
    5. Be compassionate with yourself. If you've ruminated over this problem for a long time, steering this boat into a new direction could take some time, too. As you try to make a new path out of the dark woods of this old hurt, you'll make mistakes. Forgive yourself. Be patient and kind to yourself. Extreme emotional pain has a profound effect on the body. Give yourself time to heal - physically and emotionally. Eat well. Rest. Focus on the natural beauty in the world.
    6. Learn that the Aramaic word for "forgive" means literally to "untie." The fastest way to free yourself from an enemy and all their negativity is to forgive. Loose yourself from them and their ugliness. Your hatred has tied you to them. Your forgiveness enables you to start walking away from them and the pain.
    7. Forgiveness must be unconditional. Therefore, it cannot be dependent upon the repentance of those who have harmed us. However, forgiveness of this type must be applied with wisdom and discernment. Unless those who have harmed us have truly repented of whatever they have done, we need to use wisdom in avoiding repeating the hurt. This may require avoiding those who are unrepentant of the harm that they have inflicted upon us.
    8. Stop telling "the story." How many times this week did you tell "the story" about how badly you were hurt and how horribly you were wronged? How many times a day do you think about this hurt? It is a stake driven into the ground that keeps you from moving away from this hurt. Rather, forgive your enemy because it's the kindest thing you can do for your friends and family. Negativity is depressing, physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally.
    9. Tell "the story" from the other person's perspective. Actually imagine that you are the other person (the one who offended you) and use the word "I" when saying what they would say. You, most likely, don't know exactly what the other person was thinking when this event unfolded but pretend that you do and just go with the story that comes up in your head. Sit down with a friend, or maybe even the person you are trying to forgive, and tell the story as though you are that person. It is important to do this verbally and not just in your head. Realize in advance that this is not an easy exercise but it holds great power. Just your willingness to tell the story from the offenders perspective requires a bit of forgiveness. Also, realize that this is not a contradiction to the preceding paragraph since this perspective will change your story.
    10. Retrain your thinking. When your enemy and their evil actions come to mind, send them a blessing. Wish them well. Hope the best for them. This has two effects. One, it neutralizes that acid of hate that destroys the vessel in which it is stored. The evil we wish for another seems to have a rebound effect. The same is true for the good that we wish for another. When you become able to return blessing for hatred, you'll know that you're well on the path to wholeness. The first 15 or 150 times you try this, the "blessing" may feel contrived, empty, and even hypocritical but keep trying. Eventually, it will become a new habit and soon thereafter, the anger and pain that has burned in your heart will evaporate, like dew before the morning sun. This technique forces your mind to overcome the cognitive dissonance between hating someone and doing something nice for them. Since there is no way to take back the kind gesture to agree with your hatred, the only thing your mind can do is change your belief about the person to match the gesture and you will begin to feel they were deserving of the gesture.
    11. Remember: you're not the Lone Ranger On hearing my story of woe, one wise African-American preacher said, "I worship a God with holes in his hands and feet." If they did it to innocent Jesus, then how much more to us? And if they wrong you for doing right, then you're really doing what Jesus did. You're in good company, at least!
    12. Maintain perspective: While the "evil" actions of your "enemy" are hurtful to you and your immediate surroundings, the rest of the world goes on unaware. Validate their meaning in your life, but never lose perspective that others are not involved and do not deserve anything to be taken out on them. Your enemy is someone else's beloved son, some one's employee, or a child's parent.

    Tips

    • Put your best mental energies (perhaps first thing in the morning) into visualizing the new life you want. See yourself - in the future - as free of this pain and suffering.
    • Keep the following quote in mind if you're finding it hard to generate positive feelings for the person: "Those who are the hardest to love, need it the most."
    • Max Ehrmann - "As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons."

    Warnings

    • In this article, forgiveness is unconditional and not predicated on any act or request from the offender. The type of forgiveness discussed here is intended only to free you from the impotent rage, depression, and despair that continuing to nurse that grievance causes you.
    • It should be said that forgiveness is not acceptance of wrong behavior. Let's say a family member has wronged you, and you must continue to interact with him or her, and also that s/he has offered a lame apology only to follow it up with more bad behavior. Nothing requires you to trust such a person - what is really wise at this point is to realize that this person will never be trustworthy, and that you must keep a distance. While it's fruitless to torment yourself over this person's actions (just let them go using the techniques outlined in this article), you should not feel it incumbent upon you to be this person's willing victim. Acknowledge; move on.
    • A person who truly wants to repent must realize this will require action on their part: a sincere apology, a promise not to repeat the offense (or similar ones), and time. If you don't see repentance, understand that awarding forgiveness to that person is a benefit to yourself, not to them. Without their sincere repentance, you must let it go for your own sake, but you need not feel that you should become that person's doormat, allowing him or her to hurt you again and again.

    ASTROLOGY SHOW WAS PHENOMINAL

The Astrology show with Rich Humbert was phenomenal! Rich shared his wealth of knowledge in a clear and practical way. I hope to have him back on in July, to do mini readings for callers. 'm so inspired...I've dusted off my Astrology books and charts...ready to be on the watch. The callers asked great questions, Thank you callers. We touched on some very interesting topics; especially The Great Year, which I have been hearing a lot about lately. This is the cycle of eras or ages that travels backwards through the astrological (zodiac) constellations. Whats so interesting about this? It has been known through out history to correlate with the rise and decline of civilizations...the ancient concept just happens to be deeply enmeshed in all of the worlds spiritual traditions. Check out the resources below.
