Castleman's Disease Discussion  

Jim Johnston is the International Castleman's Disease Organization Executive Director. The International Castleman's Disease Organization (ICDO) is a patient advocacy forum designed for individuals who have been diagnosed with this rare disorder. Castleman's Disease (CD) is initially characterized by a benign single or multiple growths within the lymphatic tissue. It is normally found by scans in the neck, chest, abdomen or pelvis. This support group is intended to provide an interactive discussion for patients, families, and caregivers of Castleman's Disease.     An Interview with Jerry Zeldis, MD, PhD (pre-recorded)

    Dr Zeldis is CEO of Celgene Global Health and Chief Medical Officer of Celgene Corporation, Summit, NJ. Prior to that he was Celgene’s Senior Vice President of Clinical Research and Medical Affairs. Dr. Zeldis attended Brown University for an A.B., M.S., followed by Yale University for an M.Phil, M.D., Ph.D. in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemmistry (immunochemistry. Dr Zeldis trained in Internal Medicine at the UCLA Center for the Health Sciences and Gastroenterology at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard School of Medicine. He was Assistant Professor of Medicine at University of California, Davis, Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at Cornell Medical School and Professor of Clinical Medicine at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Dr. Zeldis is currently on the International Castlemans Disease Organization (ICDO) and was past ICDO Medical Director.

    Dr Tricot is the “Professor, Department of Medicine; Director, Utah Blood and Marrow Transplant and Myeloma Program," Huntsman Cancer Institute, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT.     Mr. Mancino is the International Castlemans Disease (ICDO) General Counsel representing the legal medical affairs of the organization. Mr. Mancino's interview will discuss the responsibility of the patient, patient advocate, and caregiver of a patient with Castlemans Disease. Specifically, physician / patient confidentiality, release of medical information and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Mr. Mancino represents major non-Profit organization in California where charity fund raising events are sponsored to support cancer research efforts. Mr. Mancino was a part of “ThinkCure”, a charity that will raise funds for cancer research at the City of Hope and Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles. “They’re promoting ThinkCure as the official charity of the LA Dodgers.” “ They’re very interested in finding a cure,” Mr. Mancino said.

Dr. Anderson and Dr. Munshi will discuss the Dana Farber Cancer Institute’s contribution to the research and treatment of Castlemans Disease at the DFCI / Harvard Medical School.

    Castleman's Disease Premiere

    Castleman's Disease (CD) is a rare disease categorized as non-Hodgkin. The International Castleman's Disease Organization (ICDO) is a patient advocacy network created to provide patient information on this rare disease, introduce CD “centers of excellence”, and refer patients to clinicians responsible for treating a diagnosis of Castleman’s Disease. This premiere International Castleman’s Disease show will introduce a new health program series to BlogTalkRadio (BTR) that will openly discuss issues related to patient advocacy. Our broadcast will reach patients of the International Castleman’s Disease Organization in the U.S. and abroad. An aggressive CD BTR schedule is planned that will present academic medical facilities involved with treating CD patients and introductions from each of the ICDO Board of Directors.
