PEAS IN THEIR PODS

PEAS IN THEIR PODS

Did you know that every 40 seconds a child is reported missing in the United States . Of these missing children, 33 percent are African American children. There are astronomical numbers of abused, missing and murdered African American children that fail to get the needed exposure in the media. Very rarely are their precious little faces posted on milk cartons and bulletin boards, or reported on network and cable news shows. Saving Our Children was created in March of 2007 to address this alarming epidemic. Our mission is to make the African world aware of the plight of these children, and to make them a community/national priority. Because we strongly believe that every child’s life is important, regardless of race and socioeconomic status. Please help us spread awareness about this current crisis. Please visit out website (www.savingourchildren.bravehost.com) for more information about the organization, and to observe the slide show of many of the children that are currently missing. Please feel free to contact us at any time at (516) 333-9882. We thank you in advance for your assistance.

    Say What, God?

From the “You Know It’s God When…” Series

I was on my way to pick up my sister Mel from work sometime last year. Spring had just arrived, but it was still chilly enough to warrant wearing my heavy jacket. As I headed out the door, I heard a voice say, “Take a scarf for Mel.”

I thought, “Hmm, that’s weird. Why would I take a scarf for Mel? Whatever!” But I dismissed the thought and went on my way.

    A Lifestyle of Prayer

There has been needless fallout in the body of Christ because of a lack of sound teaching on the lifestyle of prayer. In the first three chapters of Ephesians, Paul reveals the secrets that God has imparted to us. He explains in detail the spiritual blessings God has given us—our redemption, who we are in Christ, and the supremacy of Jesus. He prays for us to have wisdom and revelation knowledge. Power to live victoriously, regardless of circumstances, has been imparted to the believer. By grace through faith we have been saved and made to sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.

We are the body of Christ and are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit. Paul reveals that Christ will dwell in our hearts, and we will be rooted and grounded in love. If we develop a lifestyle of prayer, we will discover that it is possible to comprehend the love of Christ and to be filled with all the fullness of God!

God has given us everything we need to enforce the triumphant victory Jesus won at Calvary. We have been made victorious over the evil one. We can access all the power and authority of God by developing a life that is committed to prayer—our entrance into the throne room of God.

...that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height—to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

    TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:

I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man.—Ephesians 3:14–16

    Additional Reading: Ephesians 3:17–19

    TODAY'S PRAYER:
Father, in the name of Jesus, I am Your building under construction—a house of prayer. I abide in You, and Your Word abides in me. With the Holy Spirit as my helper, and by the grace of God, I commit to a life of prayer—I will not turn coward or give up. I desire to become more deeply and intimately acquainted with You, my Father, my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

    Weight Loss and Self-Control

Too many people I know are constantly in a battle—the Battle of the Bulge. Americans are obsessed with body image…looking good. People struggle with the scale, watching it go up and down, up and down, as they try to gain control over their weight and the issues that have put them in this constant battle. Well, I’ve fought that battle on and off throughout my entire life. I’ve tried diet after diet…workout program after workout program. I’ve won and lost the battle many times, but never really won the war.

I had tried everything. I was like a new Army recruit at boot camp whenever I started a new diet or workout program. I’d stick to my regimen, no matter what.

    Sticks and Stones

    By Ken Brown

At an early age, I discovered the power of words. I can remember running home to my parents crying because the kids in our neighborhood would say hurtful things like, "You are so poor you can't pay attention!" It was true. We were poor, but that fact did not make the taunting any less painful. Unfortunately for me, however, I could pay attention and I paid close attention to the every hurtful word hurled at me. Those cruel words pierced into my soul just as sure as any knife would have.

    Confessions of a Reformed Addict

This morning, I had a waking dream that I was a student in some kind of continuing education course held in a high school classroom. My classmates were comprised of a diverse mix of people: there were men and women, a variety of ethnic, racial and generational group s, and apparently different socioeconomic categories.

I was seated in the back, center of the room, so I could see everything and everyone. I can’t remember the subject the teacher was discussing. My recollection of the audible portion of the dream picks up when a young woman asked a question about sex in relationships. She wanted to know if people waited until they were married anymore.

    You’re Not All That!

I know that statement just smacked some of you right in the face. Don’t take it personally. It’s the truth! You’re not all that! And neither am I.

My devotional study this morning focused on the topic of recognizing and respecting your limitations. It’s a necessary discipline for believers because it keeps us humble and in line with God’s view of things. The Bible says in Romans 12:3 “For I say, through the grace of God given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt every man the measure of faith.”
