    REVERSE

This week we tackled a very tough subject, cancer in our dogs. Nobody really likes to talk

about cancer, in humans or in animals, but it is a very important that we do, none the less.

Joining us was Mr. Gary Nice, President and CEO of the National Canine Cancer   Foundation . http://WeAreTheCure.org
After loosing his first dog to cancer, Mr. Nice set out to become a more informed pet owner by researching cancer in dogs, signs and symptoms, treatments available and research. What
he found was that research into canine cancer is terribly underfunded, that cancer in dogs is rampant (affecting one out of every three dogs), and that research for canine cancers would ultimately serve to benefit humans, especially cancers that affect children. Armed with this knowledge, as well as a strong love for dogs, Gary founded his own group to fund cancer research and to push for a cure. You can read all about his organization on their website  http://WeAreTheCure.org    You can also follow them on Twitter under the name, WeAreTheCure.

The No Speed Limit Highway section this week offered an herbal treatment that you can make at home.

Carpet Dusting Powder for flea and pest control.

2 1/4 Cups of Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)
    2 Tbs. Borax
2 Tbs. Dried Tansy flowers (finely ground)
2 Tbs. Dried Lavender buds (finely ground)
    1/2 tsp. Orris root powder
    5 drops patchouli oil
    1/2 Tbs. witch hazel
1/2 Tbs. cedar leaf oil (some people prefer cedarwood oil)
1/4 Tbs. lemon oil or lemon grass oil

Mix all of the dry ingredients together, except for the baking soda. Once mixed, add the

essential oils into the powder and thoroughly. Once combined, store in a plastic, air tight

container, preferably one with a shaker lid for easy dispensing. This mixture has a shelf

life of approximately 1 year. Make sure that you use this for DOGS, and exercise extreme

caution if you have cats. Cats tend to lick paws and this can be dangerous.

    FORWARD-

Join us next week when we will have

    OVERDRIVE-

This section is dedicated to charitable requests. This weekly section will list various non

-profit animal charities that are in need of funds and/or products for upcoming events. All

members are encouraged to review these requests and to help where they can!

If your group, or a group that you know of, has a special event or need, please visit

http://creativeanimalrelief.org/ and click on the charitable request form.  We also post

private need requests on other venues, so fill out the request form for any and all animal

related needs. Once filled out, we will review your request and place it here, on our

website, on our yahoo group page, or maybe even mention it on air! (we reserve the right to decline to advertise any event that does not meet our requirements). We want to organize all financial requests so that our members are not overwhelmed, so we have created guidelines for publication of these events. This area is generally dedicated to the 501c3 large events.

*The Animal Rescue Site is having trouble getting  enough people to click on it daily ,

which means that they fail to meet  their quota for getting free (donated) food  for the

abused and neglected animals that they care for on a daily basis. It only takes about 15 seconds of your time to go to their site  and click on the PURPLE BOX, "CLICK HERE IT'S FREE", and you will help to FUND FOOD FOR ANIMALS FOR FREE! This  only

costs you your time, so please click it! Then tell all your friends to click it!  So that you understand what the deal is, their corporate  sponsors/advertisers use the number of

daily visits to calculate their donation of  food  to abandoned/neglected animals, in

exchange for  the advertising.  So go to   http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com/
After you click it, PLEASE TELL ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS to do the same, then go back and click it daily!

*The National Canine Cancer Foundation is holding a quite unique fundraiser beginning July 1, 2009. For a $5.00 donation you can enter a contest to win various different prizes. What do you need to do? Simply choose your category and write the best tweet for it! Check it out  at http://perfecttweet.com   If you have a business, please check out how their special program for businesses can benefit yours! Remember, all proceeds will benefit canine cancer research!

*While we usually only promote animal related events, the following event is for a fellow

Artisan, Katie Brown. Katie is a Texas Artist that has been diagnosed with brain cancer. Her medical bills have become outrageous, while her career as a professional artist has come to a standstill since her treatments and condition make it so that she is unable to work.       Her friends with the Craft Mafia have been working hard to get a Fund set up for her. If you are interested in helping Katie, or if you would like to help the Craft Mafia in

their efforts to help the ever growing financial burden for Katie’s family, please contact:

Patti Hinkley at queenoherbs@yahoo.com.   The Craft Mafia will be holding a fundraiser for Katie, so if you are in the San Antonio area please go by and check it out. It's the
NO INTENTION OF GIVING UP - Katie Brown Fundraiser  July 26th 4-8pm at the El Tropicano Hotel, 110 Lexington Ave.,San Antonio Texas 78205
The San Antonio Craft Mafia can be found at http://sanantoniocraftmafia.com

*The Idea Cafe has been running a grant contest for Entrepreneurial Spirit and the 50

    finalist have been chosen. Now the public can vote at;
http://www.businessownersideacafe.com/small_business_grants/grant_vote.php  In reading the finalist synopses, I found some really cool businesses that I wanted to share, and I encourage all of you to go and read about the finalists and vote on your favorite!

Here are my three top picks, in no specific order.

    1) PALS with Pawz/READING Pawz   in South Pittsburg, TN  ttp://www.PALSwithPawz.org

PALS with Pawz trains Rescued and Donated Dogs as Autism, Mobility, Therapy and Neurological Disorder Service Dog Teams for physically, emotionally and psychologically disabled persons. Thier goal is to Create a Loving Relationship Between the Rescued or Donated Dog and their Disabled Partner; resulting in the enhancement of their physical and emotional freedoms, sense of security, independence and the enrichment of their quality of life. As a Public Service, PALS with Pawz has two additional programs. All of the Pawz candidates must participate in our READING Pawz and Therapy Pawz programs as part of their training. This way the dogs are exposed to various types of people and situations; and at the same time they are providing a valuable community service. READING Pawz RIF, utilizes Therapy dogs and their handlers by volunteering their time to children who need a little extra assistance with their reading and at an At Risk Youth Program. Classroom Pawz, takes the Service and/or Therapy Dogs into the elementary and middle schools, educating students on subjects such as: How to approach a strange dog, Importance of Service Dogs in our society, Dog Safety, etc.

    2) Rocky Mountain Animal Rescue Ranch, Walla Walla, WA., http://www.animalrescueranch.com

They rescue abused, unwanted, homeless pets and gets them ready for adoption, but they want their shelter to be built with "green" housing. They are planning to build a windmill and have solar panels for all housing. They also do educational workshops, which is now being done as a fund raiser.

    3) Brighter Pastures in Decatur, Il. http://www.brighterpastures.org

Brighter Pastures provides Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, Growth, Learning, and Education to communities throughout central Illinois. Their mission is to enrich the quality of lives and relationships of individuals, groups, and families by encouraging self-awareness, positive attitudes, empowerment, self-esteem, life-skills, emotional healing, and personal growth through experiential learning in partnership with horses. Brighter Pastures is non-discriminatory on the basis of race, creed, color, gender, age, religion, or economic status. Their vision is to utilize the majestic presence of the horse to empower all clients they serve by using creative and innovative equine therapies therefore becoming a recognized facility of excellence in equine-assisted activities that offers the needed programs for individuals, groups, and families to benefit our community and provide hope for a brighter tomorrow. Their goal is to help those they serve to achieve improved confidence, self-esteem, respect, trust in self, communication, and problem-solving skills, therefore enhancing their  productivity and success within their home, school, work, and community. They provide their services to victims of sexual assault/abuse, victims of crime, individuals with mental illness, individuals and families fighting the battle against cancer, and individuals and families returning home from the war. They also lead educational workshops teaching life-skills to children throughout their community.

**Saving Shelter Pets (SSP), a small, all-volunteer organization that rescues & transports cats and dogs from high-kill shelters in the Southeastern US, moving them to safe, no-kill rescues in the Northeast. All of the animals receive full medical care and are quarantined at a boarding facility or in foster care until they are healthy enough to travel safely. They use professional transporters to transfer the animals to places where they have a much better opportunity for adoption. All of the veterinary, boarding, and transportation costs are paid by SSP, and all funds come from donations. They also operate a program called Puppy Promises, that not only rescues puppies, but also spays their mother's

(to help reduce pet overpopulation), and a Bernies Buddies program, which helps to treat

heartworm positive dogs that are saved through their Rescue & Transport program. Recently they also began a Spay & Neuter program which offers financial assistance to low-income pet owners in several Ohio and Georgia counties. This group needs financial donations, so please help if you can.

*The Emergency Disaster Services Foundation uses your trashed vehicles to fund their saving animals. Check out www.donationline.com  If you have a vehicle to donate, please click on Emergency Animal Disaster Services Foundation.
