    Creative Support

In order to help the client feel more secure and supported, offer possible strategies and structures that are in alignment with the client’s specific needs. It is an important factor that the client has confidence in building relationships, using tools and techniques, and knowing that unlimited resources are available and can easily be created. This will help the client maintain progress and motivation in order to reach their desired outcome.

Encourage the client to write a list of areas in which they may have a need for more support and structure. This should be a simple and easy process and it will give more clarity and understanding to the client. Empower the client to try new ideas and approaches, and avoid repeating old patterns from old conditioning, ultimately leaving the client feeling as if nothing has been accomplished. The client should feel as if the new approach will enhance and complement their life.

Suggest realistic references and resources, and seek to identify creative ways of expanding capability through supportive systems that were not previously identified. Assist the client to investigate the possible integration of these support systems. Make sure that these ideas are in alignment with the client current needs, and release any attachment to the client’s reaction or response to any of the resources, structures, or support systems.

Identifying the client’s individual needs before recommending resources or support systems will eliminate irrelevant and inappropriate suggestions. Listen carefully to the client’s response to the suggestions, and possible suggestions that the client may have as well. Actively supporting the client in implementing and using the new support systems will encourage and empower the client to have a new sense of responsibility and appreciation.

    Exercise:

    • Have the client get centered and take a few deep breaths, then ask…
    • What areas in their life do they feel they want or need more support?
    • If they had to pick just one to work on, what it would be? In most cases, the one they pick will ultimately support the other areas.
    • If they have thought of any resources or ideas recently on action they could take to gain more support in this area.
    • Acknowledge the client for any action that they may have already taken or ideas that they may have.
    • Ask if you can offer them supportive suggestions.

Success Strategies and Tools for Successful Coaching

Master your coaching practice! Use these Success Strategies and Tools to strengthen your coaching ability. Some of the best coaches continue to learn and practice new methods. These basic coaching strategies can help you create a more successful coaching practice.

    Remain open to possibilities
Sometimes we get so attached to a particular outcome that we allow many wonderful opportunities to pass us by. Recognize that your client may be very attached to his/her outcome. Let go of any agenda that you may have with your client, and practice non-judgement. It’s okay to know what your client wants, but don't get lost in how it may happen. Instead, focus the session on looking for opportunities to take action. Ask your client if they recently had an idea, or a thought about some kind of action they could take. Give them a moment to think about it. They usually do. Then ask them if they have taken any action yet. If they haven't, ask them if they feel comfortable taking Acton based on their thought or idea. This usually requires getting out of their comfort zone so they may stiffen up and cross their arms. Just have them relax, take a few deep breaths and ask them again. Ask them to set a goal and a specific date and time to do this. Just encourage them and ask them if you can follow up to see what the results were. In most cases, they are excited to share their accomplishments with you.

    Successful Coaches:
    1. Recognize possibilities.
    2. Look for opportunity.
    3. Does not get attached to a particular solution or outcome.
