I am honored to announce that Dr. Warren Bennis will be joining me as my guest in September 2009. Instead of his usual focus on the art of leadership, I will be asking him about his own development as a leader, who his mentors were, how his philosphy evolved. Be sure to check out his new book, "The ESSENCE of Bennis."

An Ongoing Look at What Makes Leaders Leaders and How Executive Coaching Can Help You Lead More Effe

First, congratulations to Caprice Young, my guest last week on "Leading the Way to Success!" The Daily Breeze announced today that she will be leaving her post as President and CEO of the California Charter Schools Association to take a new position. Caprice will become the Vice President of Business Development and Alliances for Knowledge Universe, a Santa Monica based company founded by Michael and Lowell Milkin. According to the paper, Caprice felt that she could not turn down the opportunity to "create global education programs with Knowledge Universe."

There is no question but that someone with Caprice's talents and passion will make an enormous impact on anything she touches. I'm so glad she will be at work on global education.

The other exciting news is the program of shows coming up. On September 5, Hilary Laffer with Ladies Who Launch will be my guest. On September 13, noted author, Kathy Freston whose new book, "Quantum Wellness," is #3 on the New York Times Bestseller List, joins me to talk about her views on success and leadership. Then, my "resident psychologist," and good friend, Ken Cole will be here to talk about the psychological "boundaries" and how the concept impacts our work and personal lives. My guest on September 27 is Sara Matta whose home burned to the ground in the fires near San Diego last year. Just retired from an exceptionally successful career, I will be talking with Sara about her views on success and leadership--before and after--losing everything she owns.

This diverse group of people all have something valuable to contribute to our understanding of what makes a good leader. How does any of this relate to executive coaching? It relates directly because the focus of most coaching engagements with executives is about their leadership journey.
    Until next time, think leadership!

    Best,

    Judy

    "LEADING THE WAY TO SUCCESS"

It's hard to believe that it's been over a month since I've sat down to write. Launching a new business (executive coaching) has been an exciting and challenging phase of my life. Fortunately, my plate is very full with interesting clients. Unfortunately, there are days, weeks and now a month where there is very little spare time. However, writing regularly is extremely useful to keep me sharp and to help me step back and see some bigger picture issues.

Since my last entry talking about Mark Friedman and his masterful development and promotion of common sense accountability, I have had several more fascinating guests. These include Susan Burden, president and CEo of Beach Cities Health District, Darren Schwartz, Founder and CEO of SureSpeak, Dan Safkow, founder and CEO of Promotion Ideas, Daniel Swartz, man about town and creative developer, especially of downtown Los Angeles lofts, and Caprice Young, former President of the Los Angeles School District Board and now CEO of the California Charter Schools Association. All have had very different paths on their road to success. However, many have come to some of the same conclusions about leadership.

Today I will be interviewing Dr. John Welch from Sarasota, Florida. John is a retired urologist and the founder and board chairman of the internationally acclaimed Sarasota Film Festival. I know John's story will be of interest to anyone wanting to learn more about the courage it takes to lead and/or about how to retire and create an entirely new and exciting life.

I welcome your questions and suggestions about leadership, executive coaching and other topics. Until next time (hopefully, tomorrow!)...

    Judy
