I just listened to your interview with Ashley Rhodes-Courter because I was not able to listen to the live interview. What a fabulous show! I am so proud and very impressed with this young lady and would love to meet her! I too was a foster child and I am speaking out against the abuse and neglect that is inflicted upon foster children. I spent over 12 years of my childhood in horrible abusive foster homes. Today I am an activist and advocate speaker against domestic violence and a spokesperson for CASA. The states protect criminals, but when they take our children they are not protecting them! She is a surviror and overcame all the obstacles thrown in her path just as I did and she is not bitter or angry. She is using her experience to help others. This was a wonderful interview! May God always bless her and keep her strong....there's a lot more work to be done to make changes in our current foster care system nationwide. Stand up and take a bow Ashley...you deserve it!

Thanks for your contributions on BTR. Let's not sweep single parenting topics and MALE RESPONSIBLITY under the rug. I realize that I am TAGGED as bitter and disgruntled, but what would that make men who walk away from their children? I thank you for continuing the labels on men who are not responsible. My child's father is trying to tell the world that he is NOT a deadbeat, NOT irresponsible, DID NOT walk away, DOES want to parent. You guys have helped me to make it evident that it is not what a man says, but what he does. Therefore his stereotypical label is befitting to him, no matter what he protests. MEN MUST BE PROACTIVE IN PRESERVING THEIR LEGAL RIGHTS AS A FATHER. I will continue to blog, discuss, and support women who want to talk about it. AMERICA is in denial & shame about SINGLE MOMS and fatherhood responsiblity. There's a movement in America by women to further remove men from the family, and teach young mothers to make a man give up his parental rights as an ultimatum. This is more damaging to our society than male castration. We have more conversations on how to date, than how to parent. IT IS NOT OK FOR A CHILD TO BE WITHOUT A FATHER. We know very well how to live without fathers, it is time to learn how to live with fathers. The children are hurting, obviously not the mothers. Thanks for taking this issue seriously. www.myspace.com/kirilove www.blogtalkradio.com/psycheofthesingleparent http://themakingofadeadbeat.blogspot.com

PEAS IN THEIR PODS

PEAS IN THEIR PODS

Laurell Hall will be our guest Sunday 7pm central. Please come support this mother. May 9, 1994 started off like any ordinary day. Eighteen year old Cleashindra Hall-Clea to her friends and family, left her home for her clerical job with Dr. Larry Amos, a dentist in Pine Bluff, AR. At around 8:00, Clea called her mother to check in. It was the last time Laurell Hall would ever hear from her daughter.

    Call-in Number: (347) 326-9411

This edition of “On-the-Line with CWLA” features bestselling author, Barbara Ehrenreich for a thought-provoking conversation about her undercover experience as a non-skilled, low-wage worker trying to get by in America — the focus of her New York Times bestselling book, Nickel and Dimed. • On Demand Episodes

    Original Air Date:

“Disproportionality: A Disturbing Reality of Foster Care”

Statistically, a child of color is more likely to be removed from the home. Once in care, children of color experience more placements, receive fewer support services, have less contact with case workers, stay in the system longer, and are less likely to be adopted or reunited with their families compared to white children. “On-the Line” with CWLA’s explores the racial and ethnic disproportionality and disparity in foster care, and the need for a more equitable system.

  • Original Air Date:

“Indian Child Welfare: Meeting the Challenges in Tribal Communities”

Over 10,000 American Indian/Alaskan Native children are in foster care—a figure that often reflects a disproportionate number of children in care compared to their numbers in the general population. Although tribal communities are over-represented in the foster care, they lack adequate and reliable funding. “On-the-Line” with CWLA examines the concerns, the challenges, and the efforts to improve policies and increase funding for child welfare services in tribal communities.

  • Original Air Date:

“Dwindling Dollars: Eroding Foster Care Eligibility Standards”

Despite the growing numbers of children in foster care over the past decade, fewer children in care are eligible for federal assistance because the old 1996 AFDC standards are still being used to determine eligibility for assistance. “On-the-Line with CWLA features a timely discussion about the increasing shortfall in federal support for children in care; recommendations to update eligibility standards; and news about a recent action by Congress to address some of the eligibility problems.

  • Original Air Date:

“A Conversation with High-Profile Celebrity Publicist — Terrie Williams”

“On-the-Line” with CWLA presents a monthly special broadcast featuring an enlightening one-on-one interview with the high-powered public relations pro and the author of the recently released groundbreaking book … BLACK PAIN: It Just Looks Like We're Not Hurting. Terrie talks openly about her long-term daily struggles with clinical depression and relates compelling evidence about the epidemic of depression among African Americans, young and old who are suffering in silence.

  • Original Air Date:

“Advise & Consent: Ratifying the Convention on the Rights of the Child in the U.S.”

The Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) is an international human rights treaty created to promote and protect the well-being of all children throughout the world. All but two of the UN’s member states have ratified this celebrated agreement except one of the richest—the United States of America and one of the poorest, Somalia. Two leading experts and a student activist join host, Tony Regusters to talk about the national campaign to ratify and implement the treaty in the U.S.
