Legal for low/medium speed vehicles in Tenn. now.

An article in the Knoxville News Sentinel this morning:

NASHVILLE - July brought a green light for small, medium-speed vehicles to use some public streets.

A new statute allows the little vehicles — those than can travel up to 35 mph — to use streets and roads with posted speed limits of 40 mph or lower.

Murray Huber of Franklin has a mini Hummer H3 and says its a great option for grocery runs and other neighborhood uses. Huber also sells electric vehicles.

The law also covers medium-speed gasoline-powered cars. Golf carts are not included.

The enabling legislation was sponsored by state Rep. Glen Casada (CASS'-uh-duh) and Sen. Jack Johnson — both Franklin Republicans.

Casada said the vehicles are economical to buy and operate.
