I hope to blog about what MPD/DID or multiple personality disorder , what it is is not. This label has been changed as of 1999 to Dissacoitiative Identity Disorder or DID, it is listed in the DSM1V as DID/MPD under a continum of disorders like Post traumatic stress disorder..there are many contravrsies and myths among people labeled as such, as well as within Psychiatry circles and Medicine. Much of this confusion began with the mini TV Movie series of 'Sybil' and the book, as well as the subseqeant portrayals in the media like 'Primal Fear', 'Identity', 'One Life To Live' charcters Vicki and"alter' Nicki as well as Jess and 'alter"Tess I hope to show there are many functional people out in the world who were abused, traumatized and compartmetalized their fear, dissaociatiating from it to stay safe, when no physical help came to rescue them, they created help..so it goes..there are many misunderstandings of what a correct "multiple"is Many definitions I am a Social Worker who is displaced from active 9-5 work due to physical illness. In being home doing Community outreach through churches and other non -profits, as well as my writing I put in full days. I am also multiple. I was diagnosed in 1985 from infancy- this tore my family apart, in trying to help me/us and protect my children from all the media portrayals and understanding of text book illness from this at the time. As with anything else, there are many degres of illness. I hope to write a book showing there are many degrees of multiplicity, and varying experiences, just like one persons expereince with a phsyical illness will vary, so it is with MPD/DID.I am a Mother of grown children and my current."other kid", my cat
