A trillion here, a trillion there; pretty soon you're talking real money. Well, as real as this paper stuff gets that is -- and thanks to the Fed, a trillion isn't exactly what it used to be. It's time to put a stop to this. Just start over. Throw them all out, Dems and Republicans alike. There isn't an ounce of difference between them anymore anyway. Could the Libertarians or Greens really do any worse than this? We can start by voting "no" against incumbants who voted "yes" for the Bailout. Don't know who they are? Check out Constituent Response's Bailout Vote Map at constituentresponse.com .

CHIRAC CAUGHT BY AN OPEN MIKE Nidra Poller Paris 11 September 2006
The scene was broadcast on last night’s primetime news: On the margins of the Helsinki meeting of European leaders, Jacques Chirac was caught with an open mike, speaking confidentially to Spanish PM Zapatero. Chirac thanks Zapatero for his contribution to UNIFIL and says it’s very important to have Muslim troops, particularly from Asia. Zapatero listens, doesn’t say anything, not even with a nod of the head. Then Chirac goes on to express his concern for the troops’ safety. He says that the first four or five months should be all right, because Hizbullah is “a bit” weakened. He repeats “un peu, a bit,” but it looks more like “not much.” After the first five months, he says, problems might arise. It depends a lot on what happens in the talks with Iran.” Note that Chirac has already announced that he will review, six months from now, his decisions to commit troops to UNIFIL.
Was this ad lib conversation picked up accidentally on purpose? The cameras rolled, the mike remained open, and the whole scene was broadcast. If the government has effective control on the media, either it has no objection, or heads will roll. Or else it means the government has only partial control of the media.
The funny thing is that Chirac caught off guard comes off even more artificial than Chirac the orator. Speaking in a half-whisper, his hands hanging at his sides, except to emphasize the double “un peu” with a flat of the hand that looks like it might be patting down a lump of dough, slightly leaning to bring his tall frame within ear reach of his smaller colleague, Chirac looks like he is playing a role in a docufiction. Fake real, real fake, or real real, the message comes across: European leaders are toying with our future. They strut around making extravagant claims for their finesse diplomacy. They trash George Bush and his administration, branded with the dirty word “war,” they muscle in and say “let me handle this.” And when, by hook and crook, they get a place on the first team they turn into desperate housewives.
Yes, that’s the image I was looking for. The conversation looked like a chat between two middle-aged women at the hairdressers, under those old fashioned dryers.
“I don’t know, he said I should do it in strawberry blond this time and before I knew what I was saying I said ‘ok Michael, go ahead’ and now it’s done, I’m not so sure, I don’t think George is going to like this, but what can I do, I can’t afford to have it done again for four or five months, well, we’ll see.”

The mightay mightay Bostom will appear on the next Atlas on the Air Thursday, September 14th, 9PM 10 PM EST. Write it down! And yes you can in:(347) 996-3444
Bostom's book, The Legacy of Jihad, provides a comprehensive, meticulously documented corrective to the genre of ahistorical assessments decried by Ellul. This unique, extensive compilation includes Muslim theological and juridical texts, eyewitness historical accounts by both Muslim and non-Muslim chroniclers, and essays by preeminent scholars analyzing jihad war and the ruling conditions imposed upon the non-Muslim peoples conquered by jihad campaigns. The Legacy of Jihad reveals how, for well over a millennium, across three continents—Asia, Africa, and Europe—non-Muslims who were vanquished by jihad wars, became forced tributaries (called dhimmi in Arabic), in lieu of being slain. Under the dhimmi religious caste system, non-Muslims were subjected to legal and financial oppression, as well as social isolation. Extensive primary and secondary source materials, many translated here for the first time into English, are presented, making clear that jihad conquests were brutal, imperialist advances, which spurred waves of Muslims to expropriate a vast expanse of lands and subdue millions of indigenous peoples. Finally, the book examines how jihad war, as a permanent and uniquely Islamic institution, ultimately regulates the relations of Muslims with non-Muslims to this day. Scholars, educators, and interested lay readers will find this collection an invaluable resource. About the Author Andrew G. Bostom, M.D., M.S. (Providence, RI), is associate professor of medicine in the Division of Renal Diseases of Rhode Island Hospital. He has published articles and commentary on Islam in the Washington Times, National Review, Revue Politique, FrontPage Magazine.com and other print and online publications.
