The only show in the nation for, by and about incarcerated women. The moving and compelling stories on how they got there and why so many deserve their freedom.

Show Notes

Women Behind the Wall is the only show in the country that is by, for and about incarcerated women. Your cohosts are 2 women who share the mutually horrifying experience of being sent to prison for crimes that they did not commit. Mary Ellen served 5 years in Florida State prisons and Gloria Killian spent 17 1/2 years in a California prison. Women Behind the Wall brings you the real truth about women in prison, who they are, why they are there, what should be done about them, and why many of them deserve their freedom. The costs, the conflicts, the politics and the payers will all be covered in this unique program.

    America home of the Free?

With one in every 100 people behind bars in this country, it’s hard to say that this is the land of the free. I quote Senator Jim Webb (D) Va. In saying that either we (U.S) have the most evil people in the world or we are doing something very wrong. We have the highest incarceration rate in the world. I am a wrongly convicted woman who served 5 years in Florida State prisons and can tell you firsthand how unjust our system is from the courtrooms to the prisons. My incarceration was devastating to me and my family both financially and emotionally. I was a successful business woman who was stripped of her dignity and livelihood for a crime that was never committed! However, I feel I was divinely guided there to learn what goes on behind the walls and to tell the stories of the amazing women that I met while inside.  I have since dedicated my life to this mission.$0$0Imagine having a gun to your head and being locked in the back of a U-Haul while your husband and buddy have your children in the cab and go off to rob a store and wind up killing 2 innocent people.  THEN to be given 2 life sentences because you knew about the crime! Yes this happens everyday in our justice system. And we taxpayers are footing the bill!! We must do something to fix this corrupt system of lock ‘em up and throw away the key mentality. These women are our mothers, sisters, nieces, grandmothers, and daughters. They are not monsters. They pose NO threat to society and yet we have them rotting away in prison on our dollars! And then when it comes time for Parole or Clemency they are being denied because the Board members don’t want to lose their 90k jobs for which we taxpayers also pay. We need to change this system and let these women go home to their families. I am not naïve in thinking that no one belongs in prison. But they are not these women. There are thousands of women in our country who are literally dying behind bars and as they age it costs we taxpayers (from 45,000-75,000 per year) more and more to imprison. Don’t allow these women to be lost and forgotten. Join us in bringing positive change and helping them obtain their freedom.Http://4justicenow.ning.com This is the Florida Chapter of a non profit group, The Action Committee for Women In Prison, a 501©3 organization$0
