The right to tell one's story is a human right. The volunteer-based AWWP empowers Afghan women to share their voices with the world, despite the deteriorating security situation.

The women in this project receive ongoing mentoring by American women novelists, poets, journalists, memorists, screenwriters, and essayists.

My guest is Project Director Rachel de Baere is a writer, teacher, and director of writing workshops and retreats with long experience as a consultant to a number of not-for-profit boards. She began involvement with AWWP in 2009, first as a teacher, then as an editor, before accepting the Director position.
