Net Health Reform

We will feature and discuss the power of emerging social media applications, their promise to build community between hospitals, physicians and the people they serve. We'll also stay current on trends in health reform, including the growing interest in "concierge", boutique, or retainer based medical models, and whether such interest will support or further degrade the dwindling pool primary care physicians willing to maintain their group or solo practices.

    Category: Health

Harvard and MIT trained practicing nephrologist, and CEO/founder of OTC listed GenoMed, Inc., (http://genomed.com), David Moskowitz, MD, often finds himself at odds with mainstream medicine, including powerful St Louis hospital systems defending the 'sick care' recurring revenue streams associated with chronic renal dialysis treatment. Dr. Moskowitz claims he has the medical innovation, and documented research outcomes to prove his claim that kidney disease can be prevented, and even reversed - thus eliminating the patient's dependency on dialysis. Is Moskowitz a clinical 'disruptor' and medical innovator who threatens the mainstream, or an eccentric, perhaps unrealistic, practitioner having drunk the 'kool-aide' at perpetual odds with prevailing convention and medical standards? You be the judge.

Health Reform and You: WTF is going on?

OK, I've used the term the 'white waters' of health reform in my tweets, and twitter hashtag of #healthreform to anticipate and account for the current meltdown of change momentum for the cause of health system, aka health insurance, reform. Wow, the legislative deadlines came and went; and more wow, the cause is out their dying on a vine while the well funded naysayers prompted by poll reading, focused group obsessed, yet very smart hired hands orchestrate a 'shock and awe' series of carpet bombing on a plan that has yet to take form. Obamacare is a myth; only perscribed as a set of 8 principles yet completely subordinate to strategically cast soundbytes and video clips justaposted to 'expose' his real intent of a government run single payer system. What a farce! Today, I will review some of the more precious pieces gaining traction in the minds of Americans, as well as the more sanguine and less frothy voices out there as well.

    Health Reform Hysteria- Now What?

We'll discuss the current buzz amidst the airways, both traditional and new media as it relates the the climax of healthreform possibilities; fully anticipating the President's attempt to retrieve much of the oxygen lost to the congressional process, and their unrealistic timeline to re-wire our dysfuncational health care system while the political ideologues and hunkered in special interests do their thing. A real time live webcast experiment. Join in!

ARRA, EHRs, Health Reform and 'Meaningful Use' Debate

David Harlow, of the Harlow Group, http://harlowgroup.net/, and John Moore, of Chilmark Research, http://chilmarkresearch.com/, join me to discuss the feverish pitch and pace of healthcare industry conversations that are all occurring simultaneously during this season of health reform. From personal health records, to how hospitals and physicians can qualify for the vast sums of 'stimulus' (aka ARRA) incentives is a top of mind consideration for providers, suppliers, vendors and their consultants. Those of us who use these services, i.e., patients or consumers, have a vested interest in the outcome of this grand debate and resulting legislation or regulatory aftermath. Join us!

Health Reform: Making Sense Of The Choices

As we continue our journey down the health reform path, we may be witnessing the equivalent of a "healthreform 2.0" moment. It's been a while since the last dance circa 1993 when "HillaryCare" preoccupied the hearts and minds of many. This sound byte mantra was popularized by the Harry and Louise campaign, and reduced a complex debate into the equivalent of a "cock fight". Yet, the subject is now back front and center in the national debate. So where do we stand? and what are the realistic legislative options before the Congress? On this program David Harlow, of the Harlow Group (http://harlowgroup.net), will join me for in this opening conversation in health reform. Please join us, and please add to what is likely to be a lively exchange. The Twitter hashtag will be #nhr (net health reform).

    The Health Care Cost "Conundrum"

It's been said that "any [health] plan that relies on the 'sheep' to negotiate with the wolves is doomed to failure". This statement was made by Dr. Atul Gawande in a priceless piece published in The New Yorker on June 1st, 2009. When Dr. Gawande uses the term sheep, he means you and I, the consumers of healthcare services, as we try to understand, navigate and beneficially negotiate price terms under which we consciously, or even unconsciously, enter the complex health system. There is a strong suggestion that the playing field is not level. In this program we intend to do our part, in leveling that playing field somewhat. Here is the Gawande link to the reference article: http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2009/06/01/090601fa_fact_gawande Another excellent reference is was released 6/2/09 by Christina Romer, Chair Council of Economic Advisors: http://www.whitehouse.gov/assets/documents/CEA_Health_Care_Report.pdf and: "A Strategy for Healtg Care Reform - Toward a Value Based System" by Michael E Porter, Ph.D.: http://content.nejm.org/cgi/content/full/NEJMp0904131 Do check us out, let us know what's on your mind, and consider participating in a "HealthCamp" coming soon to your community. San Diego or southern California residents can check out http://healthcampsandiego.org/ for a taste of what is known in certain circles as "health 2.0".
