Having studied directing and cinematography at Berlin´s German Film and Television Academy (dffb) Florian Hoffmeister quickly established himself as a cinematographer in Germany´s vibrant art house film scene. He shot award winning films such as ?Berlin is in Germany?, ?One Day in Europe? and ?Learning to Lie? (Best Cinematography, Brooklyn International Filmfestival) and worked for companies such as Tom Tykwer`s X-Filme. That body of work brought him to the attention of Bristish director Antonia Bird, who hired him to shoot ?Hamburg Cell?.Shortly after he re-teamed with Antonia Bird to lense a resurrection of ?Cracker?, Britains famous TV-series starring Robbie Coltrane. He then expanded his work in the UK, serving as a director of photography on acclaimed international tv projects such as ?5 Days? (nominated for the 2008 Golden Globe), ?House of Saddam? (2009 BAFTA Nomination Best Photography Fiction), and AMC´s remake of ?The Prisoner? (2010 EMMY Nomination Best Cinematography Miniseries or Movie).In 2010 he returned to the big screen: ?The Deep Blue Sea? which he shot for British director Terence Davies stared Rachel Weisz. Shortly after Charles Dickens' ?Great Expectations? saw it's transmission: the 3-part mini series was 2011's highly acclaimed christmas special on BBC1 – and won him a BAFTA for Best Photography Fiction, an EMMY for Best Cinematography Miniseries or Movie as well as an ASC Award for Best Cinematography Mini Series / TV Movie. In 2014 Variety Magazine chose him as one of 10 cinematographers to watch.
