Mr. Chappel studied for a BA in Fashion and Textile design at Sydney College of the Arts before defecting to the Entertainment industry. He began his transition from fashion to costume at Sydney Theatre Company’s productions of Miss Julie and Uncle Vanya, then Channel 10 Drama E-Street before finally moving to film. For his first feature film The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert Tim won an Oscar, British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) award and Australian Film Institute  (AFI) award for his costume design. He revisited this work in Priscilla Queen of the Desert, the Musical for which he received Broadway’s 2011 Tony award,  The 2011 Drama Desk award, the Westend’s prestigious 2010 Olivier award and Australia’s 2008 Helpmann award. After the success of The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Tim spent many years designing for feature films, TV and music video clips in the USA. Feature film credits include; Miss Congeniality, Love wrecked, Into the Sun, Red Riding Hood, and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers amongst others as well as a number of music vide0 clips for popular artists such as Missy Elliott, Cher and Matchbox 20. He recently designed the costumes for P.J Hogan’s latest feature film Mental, Fremantle Media’s Reality TV series I Will Survive, the encore presentation of The Sapphires produced by Black Swan Theatre Company and Company B, and lectures costume design at The Australian Film Television and Radio School and Whitehouse Institute of Design.
