Some of the world’s most fascinating actors and creative directors have moved through the beautiful and disturbing environments which production designer Franckie Diago has designed and decorated. Contemporary sets which bear her mark include: Roman Polanski’s contemporary Carnage (2011), starring Jodie Foster and Kate Winslet; City Island (2009) which won the Tribeca Film Festival’s Audience Award and starred Andy Garcia and Julianna Margulies; Bernard and Doris (2006) starring Susan Sarandon as the heiress Doris Duke and Ralph Fiennes as her butler. The depth of her understanding of and respect for the past can be seen in such films as Laurent Canet’s Vers le sud (2005), starring Charlotte Rampling, in which Diago created Haiti of the late 1970s and The Wide Sargasso Sea which put Rachel Ward and Michael York in Jamiaca, circa 1800. her wide range of credits includes Bertrand Tavernier’s Oscar nominated Coup de Torchon (1983) starring Phillipe Noiret and Isabelle Huppert; The Man from Elysian Fields (2001) starring Andy Garcia, Mick Jagger and Julianna Margulies and the Caesar Award winning documentary The Beaches of Agnès.
