Mayes C. Rubeo began her career in the movie industry working as Assistant Costume Designer and Costume Supervisor to many Costume Designers such as Shay Cunliffe, Erica Phillips, Ellen Mirojnick and also collaborated with the talented Enrico Sabbatini who became her career mentor. Mayes has worked with many directors from Drama ,Science Fiction, Western, Ethnic,Contemporary and Science Fiction Her 4 collaboration with the independent director John Sayles and Producer Maggie Renzi has being a real experience in how to make good movies with a low budget. In Hallmark’s movie saga “ Fidel” Mayes C. Rubeo encounter a challenge in creating costumes for the movie having a range of fashion periods that goes from the early 1930’s to the 2000 and having all kinds of costumes situations that goes from war to Galas during the Batista regime and mambo dancing nightclubs in Havana of the early 1950’s. On 2006 she Costume Designed Apocalypto for Mel Gibson, re-creating the Mayan World that have never before been portrayed in any movie and the entire Social Pyramid of the later days of Mayan Civilization. She had a crew of 70 and the crew was entirely Mexican except for one American Costume Supervisor. A year later she got a called from Jon Landau and James Cameron to design the Costumes for the the Na’Vi’s for Avatar .
