    During a career spanning three decades, Michael Owens has earned a reputation as one of the film industry’s preeminent visual effects supervisors and has worked alongside some of cinema’s most celebrated filmmakers, including Clint Eastwood, Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, and Oliver Stone. Owens took the reins as Visual Effects Supervisor beginning with The Witches of Eastwick (for which he won a BAFTA Award), and followed it with such films as The Burbs, The Doors, 101 Dalmatians and Meet Joe Black. Owens has worked with Martin Scorsese as Visual Effects Supervisor for two films: Bringing Out the Dead (also Additional Unit Director) and Gangs of New York (for which he was nominated for a BAFTA Award). Other credits include Men in Black II (as ILM 2nd Unit Director), The Hunted, 101 Dalmatians (also Additional Unit Director) and Tropic Thunder. Owens has enjoyed a long professional association with Clint Eastwood, first serving as the director’s VFX Supervisor on Space Cowboys on which he not only created the visual effects but was entrusted to design the space sequences. This film was followed up with Clint’s Bloodwork. Following Owens exit from ILM, he continued collaborating with Eastwood on such notable films as Flags of our Fathers (for which he won a VES Award and also served as 2nd Unit Director), Letters from Iwo Jima (also 2nd Unit Director), The Changeling (for which he won a VES Award), Gran Torino and Invictus (for which he was nominated for a VES Award).     Barry Mendel is a film producer.The first film he produced was Rushmore, directed by Wes Anderson which won IFP Independent Spirit Awards for Best Director Anderson and Best Supporting Actor Bill Murray. This was followed by The Sixth Sense, directed by M. Night Shyamalan, which was nominated for 6 Academy Awards including Best Picture. Subsequently, he produced its follow-up, Unbreakable, then went back to work with Wes Anderson on the The Royal Tenenbaums, which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for writers Anderson and Owen Wilson. This collaboration continued on The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, which was followed by Joss Whedon's directorial debut, critically acclaimed Serenity. Mendel conceived and spent eight years putting together Munich, which was directed by Steven Spielberg and was nominated for 5 Academy Awards including Best Picture.[2] He then went back to work with Shyamalan, producing the box-office hit The Happening. Next, Mendel produced Judd Apatow's film Funny People starring Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen, Leslie Mann, Jonah Hill, Eric Bana and Jason Schwartzman. Mendel also produced the roller derby movie Whip It,[3] Drew Barrymore's debut as a feature director; Michael Lander's debut film Peacock; and Shanghai written by Hossein Amini and directed by Mikael Hafstrom. These films will be released in late 2009 and early 2010. Mendel began his career in film as a literary agent representing novelist/screenwriter Calder Willingham, best known as author of Eternal Fire and screenwriter of The Graduate and 5 collaborations with Stanley Kubrick, including Paths of Glory.     New Deal Studios is a full-service film production and visual effects studio unlike any in the world. Matthew has been nominated for numerous awards including a BAFTA for the Martin Scorsese picture The Aviator and numerous awards including Emmy and Visual Effects Society awards. Founded in 1995 by Matthew Gratzner, Ian Hunter and Shannon Blake Gans. This artist owned and operated, independent company is located in the Marina Media District in Marina del Rey, California. New Deal Studios contributes to each project by using a diverse palette of artistic tools and talent found in our art department, workshop, production, to the digital department and DI suite. Creativity and solid management practices are the foundation upon which New Deal Studios has grown over the years and why all major studios continue to entrust New Deal Studios with high-profile projects such as Batman: The Dark Knight and upcoming films Whiteout, 2012, Alice in Wonderland, and Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island. On The Dark Knight they worked closely with Director Christopher Nolan and Visual Effects Supervisor Nick Davis, designed and supervised the massive miniature sequence to produce stunning photorealistic effects. A New Deal crew of over 135 artists ranging from sculptors, carpenters, painters and mechanical effects technicians to cable camera operators, grips, electricians, and support crew all worked tirelessly over a six month period to design, build and shoot the effects."     ERIC STEELBERG (Director of Photography) most recently photographed the Best Picture nominee "Up In The Air" with George Cloony directed by Jason Reitman. Eric is lighting his 10th film for Jason Reitman, a relationship that began on the short feature “Operation” and has continued through the award-winning and critically acclaimed “Juno,” for which Reitman received an Academy Award® nomination. The film was also nominated for four Independent Spirit Awards and won a Grammy Award for Best Compilation Soundtrack. More recently, Steelberg collaborated with Marc Webb on the offbeat romantic comedy “(500) Days of Summer” starring Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and “Bandslam” starring David Bowie and Lisa Kudrow, directed by Todd Graff. Steelberg, a native of Los Angeles, is a cinematographer with roots in black-and-white photography. A three-time Sundance veteran, Steelberg shot Reitman’s short film “In GodWe Trust,” which earned critical and popular acclaim in 2000. He found further success with “Quinceañera,” which won both the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival.     Profile: Marc Weigert - Producer/Uncharted Territory, LLC

    Marc Weigert is CEO of production company Uncharted Territory, LLC, founded in 1999 with business partner Volker Engel (academy award winner for visual effects on “Independence Day”).In 2008/2009, Weigert was co-producer and visual effects supervisor on Roland Emmerich’s “2012” for Sony Pictures. As the VFX Project Manager for "Independence Day", Weigert created “Digital Assistant for Visual Effects”, a project management software program to manage, schedule and track the shooting of thousands of VFX elements. His software has subsequently been sold to several major studios, including 20th century fox, the Walt Disney company and Sony Pictures. It has been used on many feature films including "Stuart Little", "Alien: Resurrection", "Flubber", "Volcano", "Godzilla", "Wing Commander", "Monkeybone", "Bless the Child", and "X-Men", as well as on TV movies and series. The source code has since been purchased by Creative Planet, owners of the “movie magic” scheduling and budgeting software.     Profile: Richard Edlund - Visual Effects Artist - Founding Member ILM

    Richard Edlund has made a profound and lasting impression in the worlds of film making and visual effects. A founding member of Industrial Light + Magic, he established his reputation by winning four Oscars for the dazzling visual effects in Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Return of the Jedi, and a nomination for Poltergeist. He has received six additional Oscar nominations, is the recipient of two Academy Scientific and Engineering awards, two Special Achievement Awards, an Emmy and two Bafta Awards. Richard Edlund has served as a governor of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) for twelve years, chairman of their Visual Effects Branch since its inception, and for eight years as chairman of the Academy’s Scientific and Technical Awards Committee. In 2007, The Board of Governors of the AMPAS honored him with the John A. Bonner Medal of Commendation for his outstanding service and dedication to the Academy. Currently, Edlund is also actively serving on the boards of the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) and the Visual Effects Society (VES) and in January of 2008, the ASC presented Richard with the Presidents Award in recognition of the contributions he has made to the art and craft of filmmaking.
