THIS MONTH THE COMMUNITY ON OUR HISTORY AND HERITAGE LOOKS AT OUR PEOPLE'S STRUGGLE IN THE YEARS LEADING UP TO THE  CIVIL WAR, THE YEARS RIGHT AFTER, DURING RECONSTCTION AND THE EARLY YEARS OF JIM CROW. MANY FACES OF OUR PEOPLE COME TO THE FORE IN OUR FIGHT FOR FREEDOM AND INDEPENDENCE THAT DON'T GET A LOT OF RECOGNITION. AMONG THEM HENRY HIGHLAND GARNETT, WILLIAM WELLS BROWN, FRANCES HARPER, HARRIET JACOBS, HERY MCNEIL TURNER AND OF COURSE HARRIET TUBMAN AND FREDERICK DOUGLASS. BUT IT WAS NOT JUST THESE TREMENDOUS FIGURES THAT WERE IMPORTANT, BUT THE TIMES THEMSELVES. THE SPAN OF THESE YEARS (SOME 6O YRS. WILL BE FOCUSED ON) WERE SOME OF THE MOST TURBULENT, DIVISIVE AND HARROWING TIMES FOR OUR PEOPLE AND HELPED SHAPE IN LARGE PART WHO WE ARE TODAY. IN FACT MANY PARALLELS CAN BE FOUND IN THE TWO PERIODS. THIS LOOKS TO BE A FASCINATING AND IN DEPTH DISCUSSION ON A PERIOD IN OUR HISTORY THAT WAS SO IMPORTANT. WE KNOW HOW OUR SCHOOL HISTORY BOOKS PORTRAYED THE CIVIL WAR, LINCOLN, RECONSTRUCTION AND JIM CROW; NOW LET'S SEE IT FROM OUR PERSPECTIVE. A MUST LISTEN!!!
